chang star brakes vs dia compe brakes
« on: March 04, 2007, 10:43 AM »
what is the difference?

were they made in the same factory, cast from the same molds?

i know dc's have those plastic adjusters, and them friggin awful quick release things (road bike?) but the bare arms - what's the difference? (other than dia compe writing)

changy brakes have "star" and 3 stars on the levers

they look fooking identical though, to dc tech 3 levers. gotta be made in the same place?

if you look, the moulding around the mx is a bit less round on the real one, and the arm with the quick release is thinner and longer.

Lower grade alloy and thinner brake arms making them as bendy as fook, we know you think Skyways are bendy try Lee Chi and Chang Star brakes, they are the same  :daumenhoch:

just curious!!!

i don't have any dc mx1000's to compare them against

i spend a 100 quid on bmx parts, i want a whole bike. not a set of calipers

dc's are not allways stamped under the sticker. FACT!!!!!
truth be known, they all stop terrible. good back brakes, but poor front.

my chang stars saw me many an endo in the 80's

i know what you mean about flex though

i struggle with tektro 990 brakes as they flex too much and inhibit braking

From a quality point of view I don't think either of them were brilliant although the MX1000 were better, plus if you bought some Chang Star brakes you would be made an outcast by all your friends  ;)
I could never understand why the MX1000 had alloy nuts holding the bits together, anything more than finger tight used to strip the threads, I ended up changing them for plated steel ones, they didn't come loose then.
Chang Star have had the last laugh as they are all thats available at reasonable cost now.

not all have dia compe stamped under the sticker, but i always feel better if they do....

re-looking at the photo's, its not the best comparison, as 1 is a 1000, and 1 is a 900.

if you were to see the two together though and see them in the light, you can tell the difference.

from a stopping point of view the were all rubbish i mean who would design tech three levers saying they would have enough leverage to stop , its odvious hey were desigining fo kids i mean the v brake was so much omre simplistic than caplper design , still look cool though
