home made chain wheel, well sort of!!

just got this off the machine earlier..   its a second hand dmr one that i got off ebay..

first i stripped the annodize black off then polished it..

whacked it on the old faithfull cnc mill and hey presto, another quality JR product..



heres one with the stem i made.

what's it like for swarf joe?, do you have to use masking tape?

swarfs fine..   dont use masking tape..  i just take real small cuts, our machines are set up to cut plastics mostly and theres no coolant system. i take 0.1 mm deep cuts and leave it for a couple of hours, we never have a problem with swarf if you only nibble away at it.

i miss working in the machine, did a 4 year appprenticeship with loads of shop work
then got into CAD work

Mr JR sir, you are indeed a talented individual. my dad was a toolmaker before retirement, and back in the day he made me a set of skyway copy stunt pegs instead of forking out for pukka ones!
wish he'd made me a lovely stem like yours though - obviously one with my own initials though, not yours!
very nice bits of kit your making there.
