GT find . Well chuffed.
« on: February 28, 2007, 03:48 PM »
Been looking for a GT for a while and was chatting to my mate who used to have a GT and he said he thought he new who had it . He sold it to his cousin in Liverpool who gave it away to his stepdads grandson who lived in Widnes. He said he would try to get his phone number and phone him to see if he still had it, a few hours and a trip down the motorway later and I had this  :daumenhoch:

If anyone is clued up on GT's could they give me a bit of info on it.  It's a bit of a wierd one as it is like a Nora Cup as the top tube is cut straight, but the forks and back drop outs are stamped GT (unlike the Nora Cup) and the back drop outs also have one small hole in them and the serial is under the BB (G284788). So it looks like a NORA cup f&f but with subtle differences.  ???

It was a young lad who had it now and he never rode it because he didn't have any inner tubes and couldn't get any so I asked his Dad how much he wanted for it, and , wait for it , he said ... just take it mate you've already spent a bit on petrol to get here  :D

So I gave the young lad £20 and we were all happy. :) :) :) :)

1988

It's defo not an 88 as he bought it about 84ish as a full bike and I've got pictures of us racing with him on it around that time. Would have been out on the p*ss in 88  :LolLolLolLol:

I've checked the bmxmuseum and it doesn't really help. I think it is a Pro frame because I remember it being bigger than my expert frame BITD.

it aint a nora cup though

yours has better components than one of them, which were, to be fair, pretty poorly specced

Technically, there is no such thing as a "Nora Cup" GT. They're 1983 model GT's, defined by the seat tube decal being replaced with the 1982 Nora Cup decal. They also put the same decal on the steerer tube of the forks.

All (well, most) 1983 Gt's, be it mini, expert, Pro, and cruiser were stickered like that. The 1983 models were the same as the 1982 models, although I've spoken with someone who owned a 1982, and a 1983 cruiser, and he said the frame geometry was slightly different.

That is a cool survivor, though it is a bit strange having the serial number on the BB. Could someone have stamped or engraved it there?

No I doubt it. My mate definately didn't who owned it from new. I saw a couple of messages on a americam osbmx site that mentioned a few GT's  having been stamped on the BB, someone mentioned these might have been made in Japan, but I also read that G mean built in Santa Ana.  The Spec on it was just like the Pro Series that came out 84 (looking at an old advert in BMX Action Bike) but the frame is different. Very Strange  :idiot2:

Here's a few more pics.

i think that it is from after 84
i have never seen an early gt with a letter in the serial and on the bottom bracket. They didn't start with engraving untill 84.(the same year they started the bolgne cut)
ask adam(aditup) he knows about gt's.

Now, i could be wrong. :LolLolLolLol:
