Alloy rims and hubs restore

Hi guys,

anyone know any good tricks to get alloy rims and hubs really clean?

scrub them with jif and them rough green kitchen sponges.

if you want a matt effect.

if you want shiney, use autosol on them afterwards

use brasso after the autosol

best way is to strip them. clean them, and rebuild with new stainless spokes

i've got some ally rims that i want shiney..   does anyone know if they have like a blank annodizing on them and i should oven cleaner/ costic soda them first or should i just start rubbing?

Nice work... what the hell is autosol though? Must be a UK thing... Brasso however is universal, that's for sure. I was originally thinking jiff and those green scrubs, but was concerned about the matt effect it would give it. Will try a section and see how we go... If all good, pics to follow... If not, head hanging in shame and Araya rims for sale!

if you are just stripping annodising, use oven cleaner, then a metal scouring pad
you won't need the wet n dry paper

once you have it all off, polish it up with a metal polish. you'll be surprised how easy it is to get a shine (in one tiny bit )

it's a labour of love, but well worth it

Autosol is a cream polish in a toothpaste like tube.... Its great for chrome and aluminium polishing

ok, most alloy/sliver rims have a clear annodising over them...this will deffo need to be stripped off first, otherwise you will be rubbing for england to get a shine on em....

i, unlike ruler always work through the grits of wet and dry paper....but it does depend on the condition of the alloy to begin with


this tuff neck is a 1000 grit job and a quick run on the polishing head.

i f you haven't tried brasso, then you're missing out. polish your chrome and bling

if the anno is good, just removing it then polishing it is enough
however if you have scratches to remove then you have to go with wet or dry paper

but if there are no scratches, you don't need the sandpaper. the surface is already very very smooth. like if you are stripping a new part.
