Can anyone tell me & have photo's of what mid school numberplates would have been around in 1990 and 1996/97?

Dans have got some of the newer ones, you'll be very lucky to get one from the early nineties, but may have more joy from mid-nineties...

You could contact UGP direct, Ron Bonner is a great guy, http://www.undergroundproducts.com/index.php  He's been making number plates since the mid-eighties.
