Where can I get rivets from?????? Please help..
« on: February 16, 2007, 07:27 PM »
I need to get hold of some rivets. I want them for my tech 3 levers. I know they were originally put on with a special rotating machine of some type but I will get around that im sure. Just need to know where the hell you get them from? Thanks lads  ;)

Mivvi.

That's not a bad idea Dave. I think hardened steel would be a problem though. I am thinking of getting a small lathe, as im always wanting to make parts like this. Problem being, they cost lots of money.  :-[

hardened steel wont squash on the end. Just buy some thick alu rods for tig welding, clip then off to size and have a go at hammering the ends to form a rivet. :daumenhoch:

I know what you're saying but an alloy rivet won't last 5 mins, I would have thought it needs to be steel at least? This bike is going to be ridden, so need some fix as good as the original I suppose.  :-\

Looking at it now, it does look to be alloy? Sorry take back all I said, lol. Well that might sort the lever but it is steel for the caliper quick release.  :-\

You might be on to something there Townsend, always thought of aluminum as weak. I know B&Q sell aluminum rod, so will pick some up and give it a go. Thanks for your input mate.  :daumenhoch:

the key is the size, you don't want them to be too thin or then they will bend or wear out. as close to the diameter of the whole they are going in :daumenhoch:
