BADBMX - Track now has 1st layer of surface!
« on: October 13, 2005, 08:41 PM »
Hi peeps!

The track is now getting pretty good!

All of it apart from the start hill has now been surfaced, and rolled out. It is already pretty good to ride on, and I know it'll be excellent once completed. The bigset doubles and following berm have been surfaced with the final stuff - very smooth, but a little sticky. (Having said that it had been peeing down for a whole day before we went - so shouldn't expect too much!)

DJStegges had the honour of being the 1st rider to ride the whole track from top of starthill to finish line.

I put a big pic below so you get a better look at it.

The forum on the site is down at the moment - sorry about that! I finally get around to paying for the hosting - then Feck up the forum upgrade! - Should be back on tonight. (fingers crossed!!!)

Rooonga, its certainly looking really good and will be great to race on.   But, and now I'm going to be devil's advocate, is it what the local kids really wanted when they campaigned for some "dirt jumps" a couple of years ago.  OK, the BMX race community get a super race track but do the local kids get what they wanted.  They're already claiming the 'lips' on the jumps aren't giving them enough lift but then these aren't trails, they're a race track!!

I bet there are thousands of kids who would love this setup in their own backyard but will there be enough here to keep the locals happy or will we see 'modifications' happening overnight.  My question to forum readers is "if you'd campaigned your council for some dirt-jumps and they gave you this, would you be happy??  And if not, what would you do??"

Bear in mind that this is council-owned land and the Club set up to run racing have no authority to make changes without council approval.  Humps

ooohh controversial  ;)

Tricky one - you can't please all of the people all of the time - just look at the uproar when someone gets the spade out at Dartford Heath and "modifies" the jumps.  The danger with a track on Council land with open access is that this may happen too frequently and spoil the surface, line etc.

If the locals want jumps with lips (and if that's what they were promised) then can you blame them ?

Will just have to monitor and see.

The tracking is looking well good , i cant wait to get over there and try it for the first time .If the weather holds out i will try and get there later saturday afternoon .
Humps looking at the overhead shot there is definately room for the dirt jumps to be positioned between the start and finish straight ,with a run in from the start hill . I dont think that there will be a problem with the council after all the track came about due to the locals wanting dirt jumps. I cannot see them objecting to a set of well maintained trails in the middle of the course .Plus you never know the dirt jumpers may be seduced by the allure of the racing !!!!!!!.
Who is going to come over on saturday to ride  8).

Track looks wicked

re trails - the trails i've been riding lately have berms, rollers and hips as well as the usual trial type doubles, none of the kids now build six packs as things have moved on and got more techy. If you could incorporate some trail jumps off the track line besides the race jumps and make use of the fast berms, even have trail take offs and use the track jumps as landings for hips, youd end up with a nuts venue

the old worlds track at brighton has been altered by kids building trail take off/kickers in the middle of doubles making a right mess of the track!

Lookin good Paul.

well the Hersden track hasn't been mauled cos the locals know its for their benefit as well. So hopefully Dagenham will be the same;  and theres some large old jumps you've built into the track so it should keep em happy, better than the nothing they had before by a long shot.

keep up the fantastic work Paul
can't wait to watch that first full blown regional there  :)
cheers Kev

13th Has been cancelled :(

I did post it on another thread somewhere. Apparently the track wont be ready in time.

A few of us have been to the track and feel they could easily do it on time, but I have a feeling the council want the fencing all done before they let us loose on it.

Nah not yet Kev, But definately will get some made up.

Cheers for the info Tell, you gotta website for them?

The track is (officially) not open yet, but there is a gate along the side just before the big dump trailer. (You'll see it if you go.) This gate is small enough to get over and pAss bikes across.

Remember thatt he lips are yet to be done on the jumps. (Yesterday afternoon they weren't done.) So it might not be as jumpy as you'd hope. I know they are doing the lips very soon, so it might be done today if you're lucky.

:D

Oh - but I never told you that! lol

Rooonga  - what happened for the plan of a trails section beside the track?

I thought I saw some drawings with them on?

I'll answer that one.  The local residents in the houses to left of track didn't want the whole thing so close to their backyards.  The council shifted the whole plans about 15m to the right and the trails area was lost.  They've got nice new fences at the bottom of their gardens but it's the age old NIMBY culture.  Reckon we could get something built to as per Kermitquads comments but it's Council property so we'll have to see and am seeking comments from the originator of the whole idea as to what the local kids reckon could be done within reason.  Bottom line is that the racing community have got a potentially wicked track and hopefully we'll draw in the dirt-jumpers into racing.  Humps
