1 1/8 headset prob
« on: February 08, 2007, 11:05 PM »
hi, i am having trouble removing my forks from my frame, it's 1 1/8 threadless setup and after taking of my stem i expected them to just fall out but they seem stuck, even after i hit them with a rubber mallet, i never fitted them together myself and was wondering if anyone has had this with theirs? i cant find what make the headset is it does have a rubber gasket with
aheadset written on it, dont know if its a sealed bearing type are they harder to fit/dismantle

cheers
rob

If you look at the headset from the top of the forks you should see a washer with a split in it, this is holding everything together.  Get a small screwdriver into the split and gently lever the washer up, this will release the forks and bearings.

Think I'll go with Marty on this one - get that split tapered washer out and it will all literally fall apart on you   :)
