I'm after a set of Landing Gear forks for my Ripper. I ran out of cash when I bought it and had a set of Tange ARX forks but was always going to get the proper ones later on.

Anyway much later on Landing Gear forks now require a small bank loan to purchace if you can find good ones. Has anyone thought about using Standing Gear ones and removing the platforms ? Has anyone ever looked inside the extra bit to see if there are any extra holes in the forks.

I might refit the ARX forks as they were what it always had on the bike but I will have to get them rechromed as they are about the only things that got damaged when I was using it.

What do you all think ?

this has been raised before, not sure whether they are hollow underneath the footstands,

it would be a big risk,

hang in there mate, I bought 2 pairs of Landing Gear last year, one set were proper MINT and only cost me £75 !

I agree with MonkeyB, it would be a risk, but I'm pretty sure they're just normal Landing Gear with the exra bits welded on but I doubt they're hollow underneath as it would have been cheaper just to weld extra bits to the existing LG forks at the factory.

Alans has some copies i believe - not the best but at least they're cheap !!

You'll have to cut them down though... they've got a 5" steerer tube.

hahaha i love how you blokes say "only 75" LOL that in Aussie pesos is $200 which is more than i've paid for any of my F/F's. back on topic and there was a set of landing gear on the bay this week and they went for 67usd, which is about 34 pounds. they would have needed paint and obviously new decals but still good value. so if you are a bit handy there are bargains to be had.

Thanks again guys.
I had seen the Standing Gears on Alans website and it started me thinking. Because my bike is as used original I'm not sure if I outght to change it really. I could have bought a set of Standing Gear forks for it as they were introduced while I was still riding so I don't know.
Its interesting that SE are thinking about making new ones though. I cant see a problem as long as they were marked up. The worry about buying secondhand stuff is that they might have been abused and you don't really need to find out when they fail. Saying that though I'm not sure the bike will see any more serious use anyway don't think I'm up to it either.

you could drill a 2mm hole into the stands and then put a wire in to see how far it will go in , id be suprised if theyre not just welded on , why not ask the guy who fixes frames on here how he reckons theyre made get the opinion of an expert but think about it, how to make forks get a straight bit for the steerer then get two other bits bend them at the top then weld them on to the straight bit , put stands on after your not gonna start fookin about cuttin holes in them before you put the stands on

They do look nice ! Perhaps I should just invest in a pair, they won't be around forever either. Just need to think up a suitable reason for needing them.
