Hi there,

I need some advice about modern day freecoasters.

As some of you may know, I have a 2006 Haro Sport which I bought to re-learn some old flatland tricks. I would like to have a coaster brake on this as I want to do pedal pickers and other coaster related tricks (maybe learn the Stupple

)

I would like to know what my options are. Can I stick a coaster on any wheel? I assume technology has moved on enough to not require a coaster brake arm. I literally know nothing about this, so any advice will be appreciated.

trev all coasters need the arm that bolts to the frame, other wise the hub will just want to spin backwards.....

ive been thinking about getting a coaster/freecoaster myself

coasters are a bit weighty and cumbersome, and only really good for kickturns and some hopping tricks

the nankais are super slick hubs

mine feels like i am running a regular freewheel
no clunk just funk

trev, you could try getting an acs freecoaster on you old coaster hub , then you would have the best of both worlds. (apart from the extra weight of it all !!)

i don't have a coaster hub. it's a 2006 Haro Sport. New school.... But I would like a coaster brake on it. On the existing wheels if possible as i don't want to spend a lot of money on this bike. This is my 2nd bike, so not too worried about the coaster weighing it down. it's heavy enough anyway, so what's another tonne.... this bike is only going to be used for old school flatland. i've got my Proper for the parks...

Trev have a go on mine at the weekend, if you want a coaster to lace in to your existing rims then your going to need a 48 hole coaster brake hub which are hard to come by.

A freecoaster is what I`ve got, it lets you roll back with out the pedals moving, but there`s no brake in it

trev did you ride with a pedal back brake bitd?

if not then dont bother with one. they are a shit to get the hang of

in 1997 i bought one from custom riders (a suntour one) and laced it into a wheel to do some old school tricks

i rode it literally for 10 mins and hated it. so i took the brake shoes out and it got used as a freehub on my brother's bike

buy a nankai freehub from www.flatlandfuel.com

i did ride one bitd for a few years but i also rode freewheel. i want one for the brake (pedal pickers / backward pedal pickers etc).
like i say it is only for my sport which i'll only ride outside my house.

All you need to know about freecoasters, maintenance etc.

I've got the KHE Geisha street and it's really good, it's got minimal slack straight out the box, so it feels like a freewheel with a really loose chain. I had the odsy reloader before and the slack was horrendous, you'd go to pedal and it'd engage as my knee hit the bars. I soon tired of it.

Geisha street ftw, you'll have to run 25-9 though, if not wait for the KHE reverse(bruce crisman's signature model) or the federal(uses KHE internals) which are out later this year
