Trickys mini redline mp20
« on: January 08, 2007, 11:36 AM »
Tricky has asked me to post this redline up, a truly sweet 80s survivor, wish I had the money ::)

The spec is as follows...
1985 MP20 mini frame and folks
CW mini bars
Uni mini seat
DK mini stem
Araya 1 1/8 rims
Tioga Comp III sew up tyres
Ame mini grips
TA crank and chain ring
Suzue hubs

I have just literally finished cleaning it up, it is exactly as it finished racing over 20 years ago! I have not added one single new part...its a true survivor!  The quality of the Redline frames is pretty good I noticed this with the ML20 I did up 6 months ago, the chrome on them does not seem to take much hurt and just polishes straight up.
This is actually the bike my brother raced in the UKBMX and NBMXA championships for 2 seasons around 1985/86 so its been pretty well used.  It still had the NBMXA gold plate on, which had his age (9) on the corner of the plate. Do you remember those plates?

All the Best
Rich

Nice one Ratty  :4_17_5:

Is that the first one of these thats been on here?
Looks tidy too, most the mini bikes I see these days are shabby.... not seen any of these tho..seems to be more Diamond Back and Torkers.

Cheers Ratty, for posting these pics...As I said I just got it completed late last night, then could not get Photobucket to load up :2gunsfiring_v1:

Skywayman, dont think there are many around, if any. I just sold the other one we had on Saturday.  Sold it to a collector who used to race a mini bike bitd.  It was almost a twin to this one as they were both supplied by Redline Hotshot apart from the araya rims were red.  The other one had the Redline decals removed and replaced with a bike shop name who sponsored me right at the end..

Yes, thats this one on Ebay....
Not sure if I really want to sell it.... :( , it brings back more memories than any other bike I ve had.  Although the mini bikes dont appeal to as many people, probably as we cant fit on them now...this bike is beautiful and the pics dont really do it justice
If I sell this I only have the Proline II left, which I have been told I am allowed to keep...Bloody women eh?

Ratty,
Can you remember, the frame Redline made around 1982, slightly smaller than the Proline???
Just cant remember the model, we had two, one white and the other that candy red..If I rember right they came just as a frame with no forks...

Would love to sell it to you :) but dont know what the hell its worth!! Cant see one anywhere else

Cheers Rich, at the moment cash is a bit scarce otherwise I would bid like everyone else, if things change b4 the auction finishes I may have a shot at it. As for redlines try here http://www.redlinebicycles.com/bmxracing/history/1984-history.html.
I will have a guess and say it was the 600 series, but memory is like hair for me, very scarce

Cheers for pointing out that site, very interesting....

Its pre 600, think it could be an MXII, I can remember it was not that light, but was the smallest thing available before the MP20 was released.

TBH the MX2 was about in 1980 so perhaps it was an MX2 but in team colours, Hotshot started distributing redline in 82 I think.

The ML20 was a later model than the MP20.
This original post is so old, I now know that the particular frame i was quizzing Ratty about was the MKII.
Get some pictures posted of the MP20 before restoration, not many of them left in existance.  I sold mine, the one pictured last year,  would be very interested to see some pics of that.
Not many people seem to know much about the ML20.  It was imported in only small numbers, only a handfull i believe and was built circa 1985.  It seemed to be a lighter frame than the MKII with a midi sized BB.  I ll attatch a couple of pics of one below...  Would be interesting too to see if anymore of these are in still in existance in the UK.

Ratty, before hotshot, Redline was brought in by Gecko, I got my red MX2 from them around 82 so I reckon hotshot brought them in later.  jane Windle's still around I'll see if I can track her down and get the scoop....
