Robinson Pro XL
« on: December 17, 2006, 07:15 PM »
You may remember me picking this up a while ago for use as my 2007 old school race bike.

I was lucky enough to find a Pro XL in the US and the seller didn't mind posting it so I managed to get this for the rock bottom price of £20. Under the crap home made custom paint job was an absolutely mint and straight frame. I'd had a standard Robinson Pro for about 18 months and really liked it, my only critisim was the reletively short frame. As Meddle can testify it did have a habit of flipping quite often.

After giving it too MartyC at the Rad bash at MK this year I managed to get round to picking it up yesterday. I have to say the finish is perfect and the frame looks like new. I even managed to get a set of era correct decals for it as well so it's now looking really smart.

All I've got to do now is finish building it. I've got almost all the parts I need except for a bottom bracket for my Oddessy Black Widow cranks. I'll post up some more pics as and when I can get round to finishing it. Hopefully in the next few weeks.

Oh I see what you mean. All Pro's and Pro XL's and Amtrac's had that plate welded to the seat tube to signify it was handcrafted in the USA. All very posh you know.  :LolLolLolLol:

Si, that looks the mutts with the decals on, the colour looks great but duller in the pics - as you say it's much brighter in the flesh, I'm glad you're pleased with it  :daumenhoch:

As Meddle can testify it did have a habit of flipping quite often.

I think it was the rider more than the bike! ;D ;)

Looks good Si, can't wait for the first Hersden '07 meet.

I've decided not to build the Robinson now as I'm about to place an order for my new 2007 race bike. More as soon as it's been delivered and blinged to the max.

I have a spindle here for Black widow cranks. I bought a complete sealed bearing setup for mine. Not cheap and very hard to find too.

My new race bike isn't going to be available until the end of June so it's being built and raced for the first part of the season.
