i'm building a gt pro performer, but want to know if there is any benifit to fitting some new school parts i.e. threadless forks, primo cranks, etc

well, it will probably ride a bit better. you can use better brakes on 1 1/8th forks. better stem too.

Thats about it
cranks for strength and lightness, decent forks for strength and AD brakes if you choose to get ones with lugs on. Well worth it for a regular rider
