How do you open up a Gooseneck stem , without

Silly question ?   
 But how do you open up a Gooseneck stem, with out breaking it.. To fit on a set of Bars with a cross brace.. ???

The bars will have the cross brace pinched, ie there is a flat bit on the brace which will allow you to slide the bars in, You wont open the stem up enough to get a standard bar through!!

then you can't fit them....they are designed for the pinched bars.
