PK RIPPER BRAKE PROBLEM.
« on: November 23, 2006, 02:44 PM »
right i've got an early 80's ripper.
i've just bought a nos dia compe mx 900 brake but once fitted it seems miles to short to reach the rim.
i've pushed the wheel right up as far as it will go.
but its still not proper on the rim with blocks.
anybody else had this problem.
i see there a couple of rippers in the museum that have the brake mounted underneth instead.

dave.

no gra i aint.
i think that might be the problem as me and dan harris were talking about it.
i did'nt think it would make that much difference.
a small flat peice with a couple of holes drilled in might be good.
just drop it that extra bit.

You do see a lot of PK's with the brakes mounted under the brake bridge because most brake arms are too short. MX 900's will fall short more than likely if mounted on top. I have one with MX 900's on top and the wheel pretty far forward in the dropout and they barely clear.
I also have 1 PK with MX 1000's ,and one with Shimano Tourney's and they all barely reach where they are mounted. They are mounted on top of the brake bridge with the wheel in the middle of the dropout.

What colour is the MX 900, as I have a few MX1000's & could do with a shorter brake on some of my builds.

I've got the same problem with a Hutch Pro Racer.

Got an 890 on the rear, the wheel is as far back as it goes and the brakes just touch the edge of the rim.

I could do with a MX100 in blue or red for the back any condition is good as it is a rider.  :daumenhoch:

i know your pain, i have waited for what seems a lifetime to get me hands on a looptail ripper, but i found exactly the same problem. i mounted a tourney on the underside, but it just doesnt seem right.

so i have got 2 rear MX1000's on order to try and resolve this!
will keep you posted.
cheers scott
