Zimma's! Steve could still bunny hop higher than anyone else, even though his bike was twice as heavy. And to do tooth picks on street he had to hop 6 inches higher than anyone else cos the pegs were lower than the axle!

Yeah, i couldn't handle the forks and sold them to Ronnie Remo i think, the offset pegs caused a lot of trouble!

Tim Ruck learned toothpicks on mini's on Geoff Cains Zimma so put an order in for one straight away. He didnt keep it for long, and Im not sure he can do toothpicks anymore!

I spoke to them both today.

Tim has a BMX shop in Exeter (a BMX shop that DIDN'T stop selling bikes and change to records in the 90s... Alans who?)

Geoff still rides BMX and motorbikes (track and enduro) and lives in Oxford (in the same house as me till not long ago)

Both still top men!

Here`s a pic of another members Zima, his nick name is Ben Hur due to the size of the pegs  :LolLolLolLol:

Thats a later zima. Its got a seat clamp with adjustable seat post, and also the pegs are level with the wheel nuts.

What a ride!

Heavy as fook, the tubes are that big they look like scaffolding  :daumenhoch:

Glen, the owner, was still riding this a little while ago, he said that at the time when he bought it from Steve Geall you could chose weather you wanted a fixed seat post or the one he had, which was nice  :daumenhoch:

It kinda made a "Z" for Zima behind the BB too.

I loved that the seat stays passed right over the drop outs making them very hard to bend ... if you can actually bend a 10mm thick drop out! ha ha

christ.. i go to the pub and you post 4 pages...
somewhere in a shed in shropshire, is standard shorty frame number 1.  no year, just "1".  the first 20 frames made in waterford had no numbers, so when i think rick wagner and krt went to pick them up they stamped 1 to 20 on them.  me and will evans just returned to iowa from a mammoth 6000 mile roundtrip (2 hip in sacramento and on an airforce base, austin with sheps, just as he was not starting anything with family, then onto the hb warehouse when it was the park and the legendary halfpipe in the warehouse.. i remember talking about john barnes with jay miron, now that is surreal. oh ey off on a tangent)  so ANYWAY evsy had preordered one of these shorties so i said "dude get number one". so he did.  so i have to work on the chappy he sold it to to get it out in the open again..
to confirm the initial basics thing, the superheavy prototype standards were made in davenport by an engineering company, standard realised just how many flaws there could be so looked elsewhere.  waterford used to make all the really highend schwinn bikes, marco massei (who launched props with chris rye) recommended them, i think within 6 months standard had over half their business.
ON ANOTHER related thread.  standard set the benchmark.  their frames were great, they had all the riders and it's so weird how all the newer rider companies are offshoots from mainly ex-standard riders..   i know rick has ideas and opinions but it's so weird how standard got "edged out" by pissed off exriders appearing cooler with in my opinion not as good products.. t1? you're having a laugh.  ok i'll shut up now. night night.
one last thought  imagine a zima with kingpins.   you'd have a hernia getting that in a car!

I KNOW I KNEW ANOTHER ANSWER!!
2b "tenth" frames were re-stickered "BADD AND CO" race frames, a company based in urbana illinois (another side story, i lived there for a year and never ever knew badd and co were based there, haha) they bought em up after badd and co went tits up.
did anyone else here encounter just how homoerotically perverse most midwestern riders were in the mid90s (just got a flashback of hal brindley of 2b on the baco uncut raw footage i saw once... oh christ, find a happy place...)

Phew, chris. Glad you made it! Good job of posting 4 pages worth of small replys in one go.

Very interesting reading, thanks. I bet that No. 1 standard frame would be sought after now. It wasnt long ago that standard frames were still being given away but I think its coming round now.

yeah i think the MTB companys jumping on the BMX bandwagon definitely had the worst frames  ::)

everything had interrupted seat tubes ::) or tubing more suited as Oil-rig legs  ::)

I've heard some stories! Krt, DeGroot, Friemuth, and that other Baco guy who's name escapes me (the fruitiest one of the lot) they got up to some crazy stuff!

Mark Hilson? He had a really large head! But they were a strange bunch to say the least!

I'm loving this thread   :daumenhoch:

I was only talking about that Springer thing the other day   ;D

Also, I saw an old friend at the urban games this year - Mike O'Connell - he told me he'd been to big Rick's 40th jam and had come home with a piece of wood from Rampage  (r.i.p.), I'm sure thats now on his mantlepiece   :)
