I only ever heard about them, never saw one for myself.

My friend and I saw Gerry ride at Radlands one time and that inspired my mate to go find a TA and weld some ad lugs onto it. that was his rider until he came home from the states with a Lengthy a couple of years later.

I dont know how involved Povah was with the HAF but he did the Menstural with Keith.

Basic were Canadian, ay?  but did look very similar to standards. They had a massive kink in the top tube so they couldnt have been old standards, but who knows. I have got a pair of Basic bars I was going to put on my HAF ... just to make sure!

Should be easy enough.  Early ones had no strengthening plates near the headtube.

In my experience the Serial No on Standards usually starts with a letter (month) and then 4 or 5 numbers, the first two of which denote the year of manufacture, then another letter but i dont know what that means. Are your numbers similar to this?

I think the 5th number tells you how many Mustangs Rick bought in that month. ha ha

The standard boys made an order with there frame maker and had some sort of falling out.
the frame maker then went to a contest and cecil miligan from basic bought those frames and rebranded them while rick went to waterford to get them to build his frames.

after basic sold out of the first batch of frames, they changed there design a little so they wouldnt look so similar

So so good. There is some footage of him riding on line. Its the stuff from a BSD vid. I'll try and get the link

that means the first letter probably doesn't denote the month!

I've been out to Standard a couple of times and watching Rick ride at Rampage and on a street session is amazing!

So i think it's a 94 STA (1st gen?) and a 95 lengthy.

I went to visit cecil in 1997 cos the mates I was with knew him. There wasnt much going on at "Basic" and they didnt have much stock ... or staff ... or anything really. (Not that any of that is a bad thing). Basic did a show at some big event and Osato and Saggity rode. Then we bought the Bars Ive got, and headed south.

What is going on?! There is some REAL mid school chat going on now! No-one has said a thing about Haro, GT, and any of the other bad bikes that were around (Haro and GT really were terible in the 90s). Its all just about the first rider owned companies who were trying to make good bikes!!

Well done us!! ha ha
