Skyway Graphite's
« on: November 06, 2006, 02:47 PM »
Hi Guys , just picked up a redline and the wheels below were on it. The question i have is this , the front wheel has graphite stamped on both sides of the hubs and the rear has skyway on both sides , its looks like they have had something done to both wheels as they are bolted and not riveted and i wonder if the guy who did it should have put one of each on each wheel (ie a skyway hub and a graphite one) . As i have no knowledge of skyways let alone graphite ones.I would really appreciate your help on this on chaps. I don't even know if they are graphite  ???

I'm no expert on Tuffs, but it looks like he's retro fitted the Graphite hubs onto normal black Tuff II's.

They don't look like graphites to me??

well if you look closely they do have whats left of some gold anno on them......around the bearings, but with the nuts and bolts they've obvioulsy been retro fitted.........and i'm sure old Graphites had the word Graphite written on them.

Skyway had a load of alloy hubs with Graphite stamped on them that were never anodised, so they just fitted them to normal tuffs to use them up, and perhaps they also sold them in their hub replacment kits. I don`t think the graphites wheels were stamped `Graphite` on the wheels themself, but they are usually a bit lighter in colour than normal black tuffs, more of a graphite grey than black  :daumenhoch:

dunno about the colour thing , i have some z mags that are black and these skyways and the ones i just got off dannyboy aren't as black but thats probably due to age.I'm stumped  :-\ . Billy , would the graphites have had graphite on both sides of the hub or would 1 say skyway .
Has anyone got an old graphite they can weigh (front as there is no freewheel) or are they the same weight as standard ones???

 :coolsmiley:

I have just weighed the front wheel and its 2lb 10oz , dunno if that helps

I would have thought that it would have graphite on both sides of the hub, I can`t check mine as they are the generation 1 type with campagnolo hubs and the hub flanges are differerent, lazychubs had some alloy hubs with graphite stamped on them too.

I can't find any trace of writing on the rim but inside there is a big A in white at the side of the valve hole and directly across from the valve hole (inside the wheel) there is a faint trace of white writing but it can be read  :-\

I just weighed the front wheel of those i got off dannyboy and its the same weight. So it must just be a hub replacement wouldn't you say ? as i would have thought the graphite ones would be lighter
