Picked up my new Mid school build this morning
« on: October 20, 2006, 10:40 AM »
Picked up the frame off the bay for £20......then once i spoke to the bloke (shop called The Green Machine) i found out he had the NOS forks and a pair of Ron C bars, so another £40 later i had this little lot! By all accounts the forks and bars are quite rare??  Is it normal not to have any brake mounts for the forks?  i know you don't run a front brake on race bikes but thought it a tad strange?

I was a bit worried if i'd done the right thing? but when i unpacked her,she looks lurvely in the flesh and the pictures don't do her justice!!   :coolsmiley:
Just got to pick up some bits and bobs for her and get her built!  :daumenhoch:

Green machine is a really great shop in devon that was doing bmcx stuff throughout the 90's when NONOE else seemed to be . It was owned by a guy called Dave Drew who was solely responsible for keeping many of us racers/freestylers fgoing through the 'dead' years of bmx. Its now run by A guy called Paul and his family, and uk new school rider Toby Forte [[sponsored by FBM] has a great deal to do with the website and mail order side of things.
They have a little collection of olds chool stuff still left from the Dave Drew days in the back of the shop - including  a used pair of early non pinch bolt redline flight cranks and shimano dx's!
They are also great for mid school frames - I think at one point Dave Drew was importing MCS and Bully bikes. [i believe they were from the same company] I got a Bully from them a few weeks ago - they still have some - check them out, the hotrod and bigblock frames were amazing race frames.
As for your MCS, its not meant to have brake mounts on the forks, just on the rear. You can run a v brake OR cantilever brake, as there is a cable stop above the mounts so you can use a canti. To be era correct, Id use a shimano or diacompe cantilever brake. [loads on ebay]
MCS were amazing in the 90's I loved em. And by the wy, the seatpost I sold you should fit too!
cheers!
steve.

Thanks for the info mate.......yeah it looks a quality frame and forks  :smitten:  i'm going to run a canti on the back.....and yes the post fits (cheers for that!)  I'm probably not going to have era correct wheels on it though, as i've got my eye on a pair of Alex rims with redline race hubs off BMXBEN but other than that it should be pretty spot on! can't wait now to get it built up and ride  :daumenhoch:

Rob, that looks great and will go together really well.  What colour scheme are you going for as Alansbmx.com have some gold Spencer alloy rimmed wheels which would be pretty era correct and only about £70 or thereabouts.  You could always strip and polish them to match any colour scheme.

Here's the link http://www.alansbmx.com/product_info.php?cPath=116_120&products_id=3690

Was it Green Machine who did those cool modified wheel/lacing setups in the early nineties?

Hey hey hey! I wondered how long it would take for Tim Rucks name to pop up in the mid school section. Maybe he'll sign up to the site now.

If you dont know him ... then I guess you werent riding in the 90s. Go get some old Inverts and look for someone riding a ta with a rear tuff and a front 48.

Sorry, but that looks POO.
It is an insult to wheel builders, but that is just my opinion.

Ahhh, the old green-eyed monster.

It's true, opinions are like arseholes - everybody's got one.

Thanking you for your candor,
