Tuesday Build: Torker

I had one of these around 79. Got is straight from Steve Johnson who used to own Torker and I loved it,  so with the help of Cruiserking, I decided to redo the bike

   

Torker frame and Fork
Bullseye hubs with small allen head (NOS for $25!)
Ukai rims
Asahi Spokes with blue alloy nipples

Square cornered Tuf Neck

B1B grips

Sugino crank with Ofmega sprocket

That's very nice.
I too was thinking 'Campag-esque' for the cranks, I was reading about how Ofmega made parts in a similar design.
The pad-thru-plate is unusual.
You got a good deal on the hubs!

Thanks for the comments.  The grips are kinda wrong timewise, but i have been waiting for the right build and I thought they would look good. 

The cranks are 70's Sugino Mighty Comps.  144BCD like Campagnolos and pretty much a copy of the Campy (Campag?) Nuovo Record ones except for the windows on the arms.

The hubs, well, I could have had them for free even.  I was hanging around my local shop (they get me all sorts of cool stuff) when some guy walked in with a box full of parts.  He said that he knew the shop built bikes to give away to underprevileged kids, they could have everything that was in the box.  I waited until the guy left and rummaged through the box.  Mostly road and other low end stuff.  But in this box at the bottom, the hubs appeared! 

The bike shop guy smiled at me and said I could have them.  I offered him some money so he could use it for the bike charity fund.  He said $25 would be fine.  This guy knows his stuff, but since he is a friend, he let me have them at that price.

The stem pad-through the-number plate routine?  Well, It's a little tribute to my friend and sidehack pilot Mike Hardaway who came up with the idea back in the 70s.  We all copied him cause we thought it looked sooo cool...

In the late 70s/early 80s when I worked at Tom's Bike Shop, i must have built at least 200 bikes similar to this one.  Brings back very good memories
