North East Secret
« on: October 08, 2006, 09:22 PM »
Actually got out on me bike today which seems to be not that often lately :(Anyway Gary" Mr  No1 racer" ;D rang today wanting to ride a skatepark ,  .Must be something to do with reading hoffmans book  ::).We decided to visit a secret pipe here up north , there is never anyone there for some strange reason  :)It stands at around 9ft roughly , not much flat bottom ,but still a great ride .I've never been up for a couple of year now , but after knocking a bit rust off today i think i'll be back regular. Its just a shame there is not many oldschool freestyle riders still giving it licks up this neck of the woods because its a damn good ramp , just sitting there doing nowt.

Pics aren't great , godd damn hard timing those digi cameras >:( Gary attempting freestyle

We found someting similar down Bournemouth last year, there was a nice half pipe in the middle of nowhere, there`s some pics somewhere but I can`t find them, Jim (quimrider) has got some though  :daumenhoch:

Kelloe...  nr Coxhoe, Durham,  we used to use a half pipe in a field just like the one in your pic, mind you, that was 15 year ago ;)

Its not uncommon at all.  A lot of the time councillors are only able to get budgets to build ramps if they are situated in either very remote locations or in the very worst parts of town...  I built ramps in some really shady areas

A little tip for you though, if you're going to use that ramp a lot then a couple of coats of red oxide primer on the riding surface will help it no end, that galv finish is about the slipperyest (sp) around.   :)

I , its god damn slippy , had to spend some time drying it off today with a old tab packet and some dry grass , usually take some stuff up to dry it off , but forgot today , mmmmmm. But yeah , I might just give it a lick of paint if i start going regular.

Its well worth it.  10 litres of the stuff is plenty for a couple of coats, a couple of cheapo paint rollers on broomhandles you can have it painted and dry in a morning no worries....

Treat yourself to a rubber blade  (squeegee) for the drying off job and you're away   :daumenhoch:

cool ramp. That really is in the middle of nowhere. not even a path to it or nowt. Put it on a truck and move it indoors. no-one will notice its gone.. ;)

Jay thats looking like its well worth a visit. Is that the one we were on about the other week??? Sure it is. The ramp in Kello was great too but it was only a 6ft mini. sadly not there anymore as the locals decided to rip the metal surface off thus rendering it unridable. Think it was scrapped around 10 years ago.

there are a few metal ramps around where i live

fooking horrible noisy slippy things

why oh why do the council keep building them out of metal???

get down there with some plywood and resurface it ;)

better yet, sneak down and unbolt it and nick the fooker

looks like a real nice size ramp, a great size for practicing lip tricks, most vert ramps at parks are too big to safely try new stuff on :-[
