« on: September 24, 2006, 10:26 PM »
hello everybody
i have recently bought some raleigh mag wheels (5 spoke angled type) but they are both fronts. is there any way i can make one of the wheels a rear wheel ready to fit a free wheel? i havent recieved the wheels yet so i can really give a detailed explanation of what theyre like :-[

When you get the wheels, post a pic of the hub, then we can give you a bit more help!! Oh and welcome to the site :daumenhoch:

Not sure if you can, but have a look when they arrive to see if you can remove the hub, and swap it. I have never owned OGks so I cant be sure, sorry, someone on here will know though!!! :daumenhoch:

Hi,
I'm assuming you know for certain they're both fronts?, hard to tell unless you see both sides of the wheels.
From that pic alone they do both look the same.

You'll need to find a rear hub, then see if it'll fit when a front is removed, assuming it isn't molded in.
I'm just guessing here, I don't know their construction, but post more pics on Wednesday and people will chime in :)

The only way to do it is to tap a thread for the freewheel into the hub that you have. i know it's possible on alloy hubbed Skyways but they have a lot more meat on them than those do but you never know. it means having the right tools to do the job for starters and with what you have you might be better off saving yourself a lot of hassle and just waiting for the right rear wheel to come up for sale.

I personally think you can't do it. There isn't enough there to safely put a freewheel on. Even if the material was of the right diameter to receive a freewheel and you were able to cut the thread, there probabaly isn't enough material to safely take a frewheel, bearing in mind it will probably need spacing away from the plastic to allow the frewheel to spin without fouling. Sorry.

yaarg ok.
these wheels arent going to be doing jumps and stuff, there really just for show and slow riding.

Both fronts, sorry to hear that.

All you can really do is keep watching Ebay for a rear OGK.

There are freewheel convertors that thread onto mountainbike axles (such as this link) but then the convertor+wheel might be too wide to fit in the frame, or the axle might be the wrong diameter to fit through the hub/frame.
Unless you were absolutely sure it would work I wouldn't go to that sort of expense, far cheaper just to get a new wheel.

vintagebmx, the US BMX site. Go to the forums, then search for 'OGK' or 'convert front to rear' and similar things.
Will maybe take a bit of searching, but if someone's seen a solution..
