Seat Tube Replacement Required, who can do it ?
« on: September 26, 2006, 06:03 PM »
I have an 84 GT Performer and the seat post is trashed and has a seat post chemically welded into to. Anyone know anyone that can do a quality full seat tube replacement and have an idea of price ?

Ta,

San

As Sawzall says, drilling it out would probably be the easiest and least invasive option, it will take some time but would defo be worth it.  A good machine shop with a "reamer" (q jokes) should be able to do it if it's a steel post, if it's alloy a good set of high speed steel drill bits in extra large sizes should do it.  The other alternative is to cut it out from the inside with a hack saw (starting from inside the seat post), very time consuming (and hard on the hands) but also has the desired effect  :daumenhoch:

Any engineer to drill out, alternatively get hold of Fuzzynod and see if his drag chassis builder buddy can help you out. He works with 4130 all the time   :)

The tube defo needs repairing. After spending 2 years trying to encourage the post out I had a fit of madness and clamp the seat post in a vice and twisted. There was some movement so I tweaked a bit more. End result, the post is still stuck in the seat tube and the eat tube is ripped and twisted above the top tube.  :(

Thanks for your replys guys.
