RED WAL RIOT - out of the garage after a couple of years
« on: October 26, 2013, 01:06 PM »
I alwys loved the WAL riot- regretted not buying one at the time (had a DYNO SLAMMER TEAM frame set that i built using parts off all my old bikes when i started riding again in about 92(?).

This one came up for sale on e-bay a few years ago and the Mrs bought it for me for Xmas. Rode it around as was but collected a few new bits here and there but never fitted them. Lost interest a bit and has been stuck in the  garage for a couple of years and finally dug it out this summer -decided to  stick all the bits on and ride it around - Its been a blast.

Frame/Fork - WAL RIOT (YR ??)
Seat - S+M big Logo
Post - Generic Layback (yellow replacement sought)
Clamp - GT
Bars - Xposure OX
Stem - DK
Oddysey Excalibur 1 - PCE with Xposure Grind-disk
Pedals - S+M Platform
Gyro
Grips - Haro Logo and Bar ends
Levers - Tech 77
Brakes  - BOA front and AD990 Rr
GT 48 Hubs and Sun Rims
Chain - new one needed..............

Pegs ??????   Anyone ?

Heavy Metal..........................

Thanks guys - and for the info..

Always wondered what the rear pegs are in particular - they are well beefy and well made.

very nice but as already said lose the seat and the bars :daumenhoch:

also u need to swap around the pinch bolt and cable adjuster on the front brake so the cable comes into the brake from the bottom and not the top :daumenhoch:

the front pegs are standard 5inchers by the looks of it (have the same on my sta)

if you ever wanna sell em let me know :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

Thanks Guys - and ill get that brake changed over - forgot about that and its how it came.

It originally had very rusty  kneesavers on that had to go and i had the Ox bars  - id change them over but for WAL (Juice?) bars (and stem) if i could get some.

As for the seat - I just like it - its just for me to ride really and i like the colour combo.

Juice bars were later than your wal. If you want wal bars then you need to look for wal san Quentin bars. Other bars around in that era are Haro knee savers, Hoffman patriots or early love handles, If your after the knee saver style of bars.

You have a quite a lot of choice as the wal first came out in 1990 and was still for sale in 96/97. Yours looks like a 2nd generation one from 92 onwards if I remember right. As it has ad990 mounts and coaster mount.   :daumenhoch:

Thanks Discostu - very helpful.

I wasnt sure what year mine was - the kneesavers that were on were probably about right then - but they were well rusted..

Like the San quentin bars but guess they dont crop up very often . Wish id kept the bars i had on my Dyno - think they were xposure forklifters??

Well I guess I might as well add some history in case anyone's interested. The frame and forks were bought from Non-Stop in Nottingham I think in 93. At that time they happened to have a used DK stem and knee saver bars for I think ?35 so I took those as well to save some money. The rest was picked up from various places over the following months, I think mainly the big mail order place at the time and also a shop in Derby but can't remember the name. It's why it ended up with such an odd assortment of parts. A few years later the knee-savers were rusting even more so I picked up those exposure bars but never put them on. They were sold with the bike on eBay for a pretty disappointing amount? guess nobody wanted these 10-15 years back. Buyer drove down from the north-east (from memory) and picked it up in Birmingham.

Before the WAL I had a old chrome Raleigh burner and I loved that thing. Thought I?d switch right up to something like a Standard, but at the time Non-Stop only had the Riot so I went for that. It was super heavy and long and I have to admit I kind of struggled to learn on it. Always had more fun on the Burner, and pretty much returned back to mountain biking until I sold it.

I'll have a dig around for the bash guard as that was never installed, and I couldn't find it when I sold the bike. The fit seemed terrible to me (when the cup was placed on the bottom bracket shell and there was a decent gap and incorrect angle up at the down tube mount. ). The guard was so stiff I remembering worrying it?d put a heck of a load on the frame if everything was bolted down tight. Anyway?. It was cool to see it here.

Hello mate - I was the guy who drove down from the North East.

I haven't done much to it .  I do ride it in summer though ?..

Do you still have the bash guard ?
