GJS Freestyler F100
« on: February 03, 2022, 05:54 PM »
So I finally finished building this.  A frame set I picked up almost 6 years ago now and by far the coolest bmx item i've ever owned.

GJS Freestyler serial number F100.  Jeff Utterback confirmed that this is the first model off the production line, with the serials starting at 100.

Until this came to light the only triple top tube GJS freestyler thought to exist on the planet was the one restored and built by Juan (BMX Addicts) which is now in the hands of a collector in Thailand.

That one was supposed to have been the one and only prototype.  It turns out that one is serial F114.  Stands to reason there must be at least onother 13 of these out there but until now these are the only 2 to have surfaced.

This one still wears it's original chrome and with all its original decals.  When I got it there was a fair amount of rust but an OA bath removed most of that.  The chrome is still rough in parts and it sports a nice patina over most of the frame, with the exeption of the areas that were covered by grip tape which still shine like new along the top tubes.

I bought this off the original owner that lived a few miles away from the GJS factory in SoCal bitd.  It was meant for a mechanic in the local bike shop that had been selling GJS but he didnt want it so sold it to him.  He owned it from 1984 till he sold it to me in 2015.

Obviously there is no way this was getting refinished (thank fook I didnt find it when I first started collecting as it would have been sent off for shiny new chrome  :crazy2: ) so I cleaned it up as best as I could and set about looking for survivor parts that would best match the condition of the frame.

6 years later and i've finally finished... everything on the build is in original survivor condition and every decal is original.  Some are rough but they suit the frame perfectly.

The only NOS parts I used were the original Hutch potts mod bolt they made specifically for Deep H stems and the radkaps.

Hutch Woody Itson Bars
Hutch/Profile first gen cranks
Hutch Aerospeed disc
Titron Pedals

Cycle Pro Shotgun 2
Hutch Deep H stem with og Hutch hollow stem bolt

MX900's
Scott Matthauser brake pads
