Back in 1972 (ish) the legend that is Rick Twomey (RIP) of Rick's Bike Shop had an idea that would change cycling as we know it. He took a Schwinn Stingray frame, re-designed the front end and some other changes and produced the very first 'diamond' frame design which was the first real BMX as we know it.
Everything that we know and love about this amazing sport of ours stemmed from this frame, the design is still with us today almost 50 years later which tells you exactly how important it was and how far ahead Rick was.
This bike was ridden by the originals in BMX, legends like Dave Clinton, John Palfreyman, Thom Lund and Doug Takahashi all rode this bike.
The original is in the possession of my good friend Rick Gaytan (Reilley1) in the USA but when I saw it I knew I wanted to make one myself.
So I purchased a 1972 Schwinn Stingray, made a jig and put an new front end on the bike, some tubes were modified to Rick's design.
This is my homage to this legendary bike and the man himself, I hope I have done it justice.
