2004 Euro Barcode.
« on: March 27, 2021, 04:19 PM »
Wow. Never thought this would ever happen.

I had a good move around the other day.

I managed to get them in so I can fit another on the end (the Fit). That leaves me room for one more complete. Was going to do the Root Down, but really wanted to end with a bang. I can fit three in my bathroom as it sits (I have a triple floor stand, I just need to bring it over).

TBH I could fit nearly all of my bikes in there, and maybe someday will have to. You can't walk into that part of the room without smashing your head. I currently dry clothes in there, but do have a tumbler. So yeah, realistically I can do one more and have room to keep it.

What better than literally the king of midschool bikes?

I bought the frame from a guy on the T1 group on Facebook. Oddly enough I bought my Ruben from him at about exactly this same time two years ago.

Someone cut the seat tube down to new school size so they could slam the seat. Which is annoying, but it made it half the price of any other code frame. I'm not bothered about it tbh. At some point a mate of mine is retiring, and I will get him to convert it into a Garrett any way. As part of the deal I got some bars also.

Which as usual triggered me into "FIND ALL THE PARTS" mode. I had some stuff left over I have had years that I will be using. First up the cranks. I bought these in 2012 for my SE, then swapped them out for SE cranks.

They're nothing special. However, they work and they work great. I will repaint them in gloss black as they are currently a flat black and I don't like the Salt logo.  I needed wheels *gulp*. We all know what good wheels cost. It's always bloody scary. However, I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve. Step one was IMG's Ebay clearout account. Not many know about it, so it's usually got some gems in it.

20 quid. Sun Rhino Lite and a Mirraco hub. For the rear wheel I found a NOS Seventies sealed 13t cassette with a Supra G rim.

Tyres. Fly Sergio. These were ?16 each on sale.

Thankfully I have two Euro 19mm BBs, as they aren't cheap (about forty quid ffs) So I splashed a bit on a 36t Profile.

Cheap seat post (getting polished, or if the alu is crap painted)

Cheap seat clamp (again getting painted)

Cranks are missing the end bolts. I nicked them for something else.

Cheap United chain.

Headset.

Mission (Kink) "Cease" V2

It's a cheaper version of the Kink CNC "Desist". Quite funny. "Our brakes are called cease and desist".

Cable (Jet)

Lever (Jet. I have ordered polished, but there is no pic of it in polished)

Splashed a bit on the stem. It was 40 quid on sale down from 60. Big chunky boi like my Bone Deth Muffin top. They are very similar.

United Purge IIRC. Seat I had. Picked it up for a tenner ages ago.

Had a choice of fork. A new school unbranded cheapo set or these.

Huffy 4130 fork (unless some bastud has nicked them from my shed). Will repaint those in black. Kinda remind me of Pitch Fork. Best thing is they are uncut.

I bought pedals for my upcoming (now not happening) 2hip build.

But the grips I bought didn't match (ODI). I found out they do matching grips, so I bought those too.

They don't look like they match, but they do a pedal slightly different in the same colour and here they are with the grips together.

OK. So the colour. I hate raw. Well, I like it in context. IE on a Mad Max build like matey's race bike here. However, with NOS and new school parts all over? nah. So I am going to do it seafoam green.

However, lessons were learned doing the Ruben. IE, don't use fake 2k clear. Lots of bullshitters out there. The paint on the Ruben came out incredible, but it literally falls off due to the shite clear :(

Lesson learned. Buy proper 2k clear with the hardener in it that needs popping to release.

Coming to you sometime this year........

Going for a mix of original decals.

But custom printed with a couple of changes.

Not sure of the frame length yet, so will finish that one later.

And finished the seat tube decal. I will send these over to my buddy later.

Afternoon, mon Radsters. I wasn't due over until tomorrow, but I woke up to this eh.

Yeah, like fook was I not getting out riding in that ! Rode down to the train station. Man, very unfit.

Ride at the other end. Bomb down a hill (that shit never gets old !) and then ride up one. Which half killed me lmao. Need to get back on the game.

Glad I came today. The parcels were piled up, and there's more to come.

Grips.

Headset.

Tyres.

Back wheel.

That thing is beefy. Like, tank beef. I love it !

Then onto my gamble. Carlo has a outlet on Ebay that he doesn't tell any one about because it's where he gets rid of his seconds and cheaper stuff. I saw this wheel....

With a very generic description..... "BMX 20" Front Wheel (UnSealed Bearing) ex demo". There are tons of them on there, same description, but they all look like this.

IE just some cheap generic wheel from a cheap complete. At ?20 I figured it was worth the risk. Like, I needed a front wheel and a boggo would have done (that's about the right price tbh). Cue my excitement when this arrived.

That's not a cheap wheel and that's not an unsealed hub. That's a sealed Mirraco hub and that wheel would have came on a top end bike. Stoked !

Seat post for the FIT that wasn't in China but took three weeks and has Chinese import stickers all over it. Dick heads, neggo for you ! Parts.

Finally I nervously opened the shed...

Yup, they were still there. And they are actually pretty nice and totally look like fake Pitch Forks. Even the welds are really good.

So that was a touch. Source order with the rest of the porn comes tomorrow I think.

Oh what fun dragging it all up to the loft. Not.

Found four Mirra pegs. Never fitted them, as they just destroy other bikes if you stand them close. They'll go perfect on this.

Pedals are finally with the matching grips.

Dug out the cranks.

Found the BB.

Going to work on the pedals for the FIT tomorrow. Want that done and out of the way.

I.... I couldn't do it.

You know?

Put 8 spline basic cranks on a Barcode. Thankfully I still have a small part of my rectum left because I bagged these really cheap.

WTF I am up drawing graphics, cutting them and getting them ready. I blame Spring !

Any way, that ought to be it now (yeah I know the TMs are missing. To cut them to scale they don't fit on A4 plotter. I will cut them tomorrow from scrap to go at the end.

Found some more NOS mid school goodies. Overkill FTW. Got a set of peg tugs.

And this for ?4, which was a nice find.

Fork is done.

I used acrylic clear for the first time. Kobra, IIRC. I am very impressed. My camera however, isn't. It just refused to focus on one so shineh.

That said that sun is brutal, so they have flashed off completely after about an hour or so. I also painted and cleared this.

Which will go with this once the vinegar has done its job and I have polished it.

Whilst the fork was being roasted I popped up and came up with a few ideas for fork decals. Obviously not Huffy, even though these were top end forks for them. So I went mid school all the way.

Forgot I did not have any primer left, so have ordered that.

Pads and CTs came today. Source order comes tomorrow.

As does the frame and bars.

I did make a decal for the post last night.

]

Seafoam candy is here. So is the 2k. However I forgot I had no primer, so I ordered that yesterday.

Bars are sanded and primed. Too cold to put down gloss tbh. The crap part is done now though.

Bar decal.

I also decided to be sensible and use this on the raw bits. That and to grab onto the clear that's on it.

Weather is cack any way, so won't be doing much.

Went back through my receipts and noticed the tyres were listed as front tyres. Then I was worried it's because they're too tall to fit the rear. Seems they are not.

Once the bars were done hanging over the rad for a few hours I took those up to look at them under the LED lights. Found a few chips in the metal itself under the primer, so took those out with a sanding barrel then feathered them.

Bars are currently outside drying. Decided to ditch the headset I bought in favour of this. A NOS Tange Tank. Cost a bit, but it's awesome.

Bars are done. Primered them up again last night.

Then black gloss.

And then clear. Currently drying in the spare room.

Was going to clear them tomorrow, but it's Easter so I CBA.

I wasn't going to do this today. Sadly it would seem I am addicted. The hub guard was meant for the front wheel (you can see it in the bars pics there, it's 10mm). Sadly it was a bit beefy for that and ended up in the spokes. So I ordered this a few days back, came today.

It worked brilliantly. Aside from one bit. There is a notch there for the guard to stop it spinning in the drops. Well the 14mm part would not reach that without making the hole in it 16mm (it's not deep enough). I pissed around with the sanding barrel on the dremel for about five minutes, before realising carbide was the way forward.

Go on, resist that you twat. Of course it had no chance, and thus.

We now have a hub guard.

Left it on the rad over night to harden.

Needs sanding back in a couple of areas. Will do that later when Amazon bring me more sandpaper.

And another day of suck is out of the way.

Imperfections sanded out wet. Then it was back outside for the second and final coat of primer.

Legs akimbo !

And back on the rad to harden.
