Where are they now? BMX Beat 1985
« on: September 22, 2006, 07:39 PM »

Hi there Peeps, figured it was time a new topic done the rounds.  I'm looking to see where some of the old boys are these days.  Thought I'd start with BMX Beat 1985 for no apparent reason.  I've filled in some that I think I might know, but hopefully you guys can help fill in the rest.  :)

Here's the list;

Nick Martin
David Slade
Paul McCracken
Jess Dyrenforth
Ciaran Jones
Steven Mcintosh
Trevor Cowell
Paul Hudson
Mark Anderson
Dave Young - Still in the Newcastle area - Member on this site
Tony Hardy
Neil Stevens
Stuart Duncan
Mason Smith - Still running Custom Riders
Robert Bell
Simon Kefford - I believe is a member on here
George Gordon
Winston Jones
Jason Hassell - I think I heard he is living Down Under now.
Glyn Lewis - Various rumours, but no one seems to want to talk about it.
Graham Marfleet
Andy Irwin - Member on here
Ben Dickenson
Stuart "Pepi" Winder - Loitering around the Crawley / Horsham area?
Paul Zak

Can anyone fill in the gaps?

were you on BMX Beat in 1985?  Who are you?  I'm sorry if you were Andy Ruffell, Alistair Pirrie, any of the BMXperts or the crowd... Thought I'd just add the competitors...

Anybody that competed on the Kellogs event was deemed a pro so was banned from entering BMX Beat 85  :(
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

So I got it wrong then  :(

I did read though that that was the reason why Craig and Neil were not allowed to enter.

Did you do the 85 Kellogs as well then Andy ?

it was only those that entered kelloggs 85 that were banned from bmx beat 85. it was deemed that those competing for the prize purse offered by kelloggs made the riders professional and as bmx beat was an amatuer competition they were therefore banned.  i believe it was only craig campbell, neil ruffell, mike pardon (who was actually a judge on bmx beat 85) and i think maybe andy preston?

I think mike pardon was only offered a judge role as he was the current holder of the title. although andy preston did give a "how-to" on his no hander drop in.

Ok lads lets clear it up then before theres fisty cuffs!!! I wasnt allowed to enter because i was deemed a pro by Mr Colin Kefford!!  Thats when the whole uk freestyle association was took over by school teachers and became even more of a joke.
Actually i was glad i couldnt enter because i would have got my arse kicked!
I remember Dave curry rode pretty damn good that weekend. I was asked to present a "how To" cant remember if i got paid
Howd you get paid Mr Irwin??
So thats the story of bmx beat 1985.

The twighlight of my freestyle career  :'( thats when Mr Irwin led me into the dark murky world of vertical skateboarding.
shame on you son.. :D

cheers MIke

hey jeff or who ever you are, why do you act so big headed, you gave up in around 84-85  you was on the gt tour, you rode with fiola,  so what, you was a young boy,[boy]you gave up for nearly 20 years,   reading your posts you speak like it was yesterday, grow up, you wouldn't talk like that in any skatepark today,  they'd laugh at you,   i have two boys who work for me who nearly made it as pro footballers, both played for west ham all there lives, for  probs 10 years,  the've got on with there lives with out talking like has beens,  my old rom pal bill stupps was big in the 80s and i see him every week at rom , he never brags about any thing to do with the old skool, just has a laugh and tells plenty of storys , like i say enjoy talking about the old days but dont act flash like it was yesterday. my lad who is 14 would slaughter you in a skate park today. so would bill stupps boy and rom blokes boy,  once again enjoy the old days and remember they where the old days,           ps this is an old skool site to remember yesteryear wth fond memories not personal bragging for some old has beens,

Dan

Jeff Spicoli is Andy Irwin who used to be one of the top riders in the country  and as far as I see I havent seen him bragging about his past, also if you check out the video section the guy can still mix it with the best of them at 40 so I cant understand where all the hostility is coming from. If there is any bragging on the site its all done in a taking the piss type content so lighten up big guy and enjoy the site. :daumenhoch:

I agree entirely, this site is the best site around. No one brags we all just chat about the old days and the new plus most of us are still doing it.

Chill out relax and enjoy the best O/S around..

plus Andy (if he wants) can brag all he likes cos he is built like a brick outhouse..
