Tuff Brake Rub
« on: February 23, 2020, 04:56 PM »
Hi guys, I’ve bought a nice used pair of Skyway 24 Tuff II’s in white. They were from a really nice seller and I got a great deal seeing as they came with DMR Supermoto’s fitted. He didn’t hide anything as brake rub was mentioned and there were pics of it on the rear wheel too. Problem is blue Skyway tuff pads were used on white wheel, and possibly clear pads after the blue. I thought it would be just colour transfer but there is a plastic like build up on the rim from the pads where the spokes are.

So I have 2 questions...

1. Is there a trick to get this build up off and remove the blue marks without scraping and damaging the rim?

2. Is there a better brake pad to use once I’ve cleaned the rim, maybe Cool Stop or Z pads in white?

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers dude, I found that after I posted on here. I was hoping there was a chemical you could use to loosen it up a bit. Not sure what soft scrub is either, or an equivalent available over here. This stuff is welded on good.

I never used this stuff..
Cherrypicker sent me this link as originally planned on cleaning of set of yellow tuffs . Unfortunately there faded so I don’t think this stuff would work .. going down the wet and dry method with high grade 800 plus paper

When you're at the razor blade stage use one of these style of blade holders or similar :

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stanley-593Oc-Window-Scraper-590/dp/B0001IWDBK/

Gives you a bit more control of the angle you attack the wheel with so you don't cut any gouges into it   :daumenhoch:
