BH X3 California survivor
« on: July 13, 2019, 08:59 PM »
Bit of a score today and local too which never happens.
This guy was selling his super minty 24” TA.
I was having a look on behalf of a mate who lived a fair few miles away who was thinking of buying it.
After a good look over this stunning ride , we done the deal and arrange to collect this weekend.
We got talking about old school bmx but he was more into skateboarding back then , but on the next breath he said  “have a look at this..”
One of his mates had rescued from a skip many moons ago very old bmx , which ended up for years in his lockup ( fooked lookup as my foot not once but twice went through the metal floor 🤣)
Once we removed all the crap , my eyes lit up .

An original unmolested BH x3 California survivor with original pad set but missing the cross bar pad . The original cheng shin snake belly fat thin tyres , Weinmann brakes , Ambrosio wheels , but missing the seat.
I Said these was Halfords specials back then , but getting super rare as many was unloved and unfortunately skipped.

A few days passed until today.
I met up with my mate to collect his stunning TA , but ::) I don’t normally go for these but had a second look and had this urge to rescue this
So fook it , I bought it..

This evening on close inspection looks very lightly used originally BITD. The sides of the rims including brake pads have hardly any ware, just poorly stored over the years, and light dusting of cement dust on wheels.
Not the usual rash on the pedals and grips just storage marks unfortunately all over the frame and cranks chrome looks past it.

So armed with just a bucket of soapy water , cloth , sponge pad and a 2” paint brush to reach the awkward bits..
Well, just supremely surprised how much it come up with just a bucket of water..
The Weinmann brakes blue anno are in great condition , just need a bit of mother’s on exposed metal bits.
The Ambrosio wheels are just amazing with just a light wash , there are small bits of cement dust in one place on the front , will remove that eventually.
The original ambrosio Delcals are great condition , the rear blue anno finish looks amazing , just the chrome bits need a bath..
Just put some more air in the half inflated tyres (yes still had air after all these years) popped a seat on ,took it out for a quick blip , rode perfect , and very comfortable too.
I will Probably strip it down to bath all the bits , mothers , but for now
another survivor lives another day❤️

Wow, amazing!!!

I’d love one of these - my mate had exactly the same one!  I remember it being really heavy, with a chunky mongoose style stem. Fantastic find!  :smitten:

Sorry mate 🙄 to much shite going on a present 🐕😔

It wasn’t rode that much by the looks of things.
The brakes pads are virtually untouched , the chainwheel which normally seized clicks away like new.
Reminds me of my sis who had a extra burner not really into bikes because WE had one she had to have one.
She rode it once Christmas Day for it to remain out the back to rust away.. :knuppel2:
