Body Armour
« on: September 14, 2005, 07:46 PM »
After busting a rib and generally crashing alot lately,  I've decided to pad up a bit more.  What are people's thoughts on body armour (shoulder/chest/rib type).  Is it worth it, say for racing?  I know Tom Lynch was wearing some old JT gear at Bournemouth, but still managed to break his collar bone.

If the slam is big enough you are going to break something.  Hopefully the body armour lessens the impact.

pressure suits are wicked, but suffer the same problems as knee gaskets, but they have saved me from a lot of excess pain this year.

You can`t ware too many pads Neil, body armor is a great idea but it does get a bit warm  ;)
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

Let me know if u find any!!! :D

I've got a moto-x body-jacket-thingy (back, front, shoulders, arms, etc)
feels a bit hard and cumbersome at first but once its worn-in its fine, and saves you from alot of bumps and bangs if you go down

Also got some dainese armoured shorts and they're crackin, really saves your arse!!!
oh got knee shin thingies as well...

makes you feel INVINCIBLE and keeps you nice and toasty warm!!!!

body armour won't do shit against broken collar bones.

collar bones break when you put your arm out to stop the fall - the shock then travels straight up the arm and cracks the collar bone.

In any form of cycling this is the most common break

But the JT body armour looked well cool BITD

True... but it does stop you 'chipping' bones, and also stops bits of bikes digging-in and/or punctureing your softer parts!

I use one of these for enduro riding - not the full on mx protection, but stops some of the knocks and bruises you would otherwise suffer. Combined with knee protection and elbow/fore arm.
