Hello
I recently wanted to buy a teen dream, so after a lot of searching on fleabay, I found a nice bmx.
Nice chap on fleabay done me proud with a good deal
An exhibitionist frame, fork and crank
Now looking at buying all the extras, I have not got any experience in building bikes so it’s going to be a bit of a challenge.
Finding right parts, tools and putting it together
Still unsure whether to change the colour or not..we’ll see
This is the baby in question

That is a beautiful frameset mate...If the finish is original then defo leave it.
The decisions you need to make are.....
Tuffs or spokes...?
one piece crank or 3?
OG/nos parts or repop ...shame to use repop parts on such a nice and rare frameset.....
Look forwars to the build, don't be afraid to ask questions...

IF it were mine...which unfortunately it is not.....I would be tempted to go with baby blue Skyway tuffs ( genuine 80's ones), some white tyres (comp st or panaracer) a nice tuf neck stem, baby blue bubble font A'mes and a baby blue Viscount Dyna seat. I would stick with the one piece crank and the Kuwahara chainwheel...just add some nice Shimano DX pedals or ACS stoker. not sure on bars...maybe Redline forklifter race...Vector VC 10...or VDC Woody bars...or maybe Skyway EZ 1...tech 4 levers with FS880 calipers (yes...they did come out in 84 not 85) silver suntour broken arrow seatclamp...job done!

Thanks everyone
The paintwork was done by superbikedan by the fleabay listing.
It was one of the bmx museum’s bike and had been in storage for six years.
I bought some of those original parts in the deal, seat post, pedals and hutch handlebars.
I’m not in s rush to use those parts, I don’t mind buying something else to make the kuwahara look good.
Plenty of ideas for bits, will need to go and have a look see
Don’t quote me on this but I think this was the bike before storage..or at least looks like it

Wow, what a first frame set to buy mate
Take your time is the trick. Personally I would always go for a set of well-built spokes and skin-wall tyres, even on a freestyler and a one-piece crank but it’s your bike so enjoy building it and definitely enjoy riding it, even if it’s only on pub crawls or down the road with your kids

It looked pretty good how it was built...except for the bars....if they were chrome even it would not be far off perfect. I am not a fan of Hutch ladder bars personally, especially as the extra bar is of no real use....they are still worth good dough though

Awesome first build...you need something like the Kuwie freestyle bars on this or a set of bars that have a small width at the stem and rise out wide, something like a forklifter freestylers or vdc freestylers....if the finish is original, I'd keep it. Keep the opc. A strong stem like a GT Mallet or Hutch. Id look to introduce some black to match the kuwie decals, so black tyres, grips and seat (keep colours in threes…) and maybe mks grafights. I’m thinking tuffs…..go with the fS880s deman recommended...potts mod is a must and a rotor if you're going to run a coaster
….these Exhibitionists remind of dp freestylers but cooler!!

Thanks again
Doing a few searches with just the few so far recommended has brought up so many items I have never heard of before.
There are some lovely nos items on eBay, most not supplied on the bike but would look stunning on the frame

There's a set of white Kuwwie freestyle bars just appeared for sale - I'd grab them for this build and flog the ladders definitely

Morning..just updating what’s happening and a question regarding previous brake recommendations.
I have bought some nos parts, grips and suntour stem.
My tuffs arrived from America but were sadly damaged so I may have to go down the araya route which is starting to look more appealing.
Earlier fs 880 were recommended but which dia compe brake would be used for the hollow bolt route on front brake.
Another quickie please..my chain wheel, can that be changed to another chain wheel with more teeth,43 or 44 for example, I am looking at changing it to silver
Thank you

As long as it’s the right BCD any replacement chainring will fit
If you’re using that power disc then you have a choice of 2 different BCDs to pick from
