Love My Huffy BMX, new to RAD
« on: October 06, 2018, 09:04 PM »
Good evening RAD members

I’ve had my huffy bmx for years and it’s always been my ride of choice out of 4 other bikes.

Finally I have decided to strip it, re paint and overhaul it all. Giving it some love that it really deserves. I’ve put a timescale
Of Santa cruise London on completion and already work is getting in the way!!!!

I’ve got some question on replacing the bearings and bottom bracket and thought RAD would be the place to get the knowledge and support I need.
The entire bike is/had/has old style ball bearing/cages in the bottom bracket and headset.

My initial question (I’m sure there will be more!) is can I put in new style sealed bearing units?

Also does anybody know where I can actually reference the frame numbers?
Looking forward to getting into this forum more.

Josh

Josh the answer is yes for both the BB and headset but they're not cheap unfortunately if you want truly sealed units. Try a decent newly made semi-sealed solution for both as they will be easier on your pocket :coolsmiley:

Headsets you need to go to the USA as Pork chop used to do fully sealed custom made ones but seems sold out now - he does this Neco one but they're not a sealed bearing, they have decent dust caps on them - you can also try eBay but make sure you don't buy one for a road bike as they are different size cups to a BMX - both are for 1-inch threaded forks but the head tube on the frame are different sizes. Here's the correct one:

A YST semi-sealed BB (bottom bracket) set for your 24tpi (threads per inch) OPC (one piece crank) will solve your problem for sensible money - try eBay or again porkchop has them

Hope it helps mate :daumenhoch:

Thanks for your advice and welcome guys.

Are these parts available in the uk?

I was sure that I’d taken a photo prior to stripping my Huffy but obviously not!!!
