The Build Bench Is Back - An Old Friend Revisited.
« on: March 27, 2018, 05:22 PM »
As some have of you will remember, I built an 85 GT Pro a few years ago and did it in gloss black with silver parts. It was around the same time that I got rid of my yellow 84 Performer, something I needed to do although I didn't want to but needs must etc etc.

Anyway, fast forward to MK15 and I took my black GT along, unfortunately on the way home in the van I was getting a lift in, SBD's lovely powder got damaged, as too did one of the fork decals, then a month or so later on the Hawarden ride, I pedalled off from Geoff's pub and I remembered that when I put my original wheels back on after MK that i'd not tightened the nuts up enough so the axle got dragged up the drop outs and the nuts and washers too ripping more powder off, I was gutted.

The next event in the story was Nick Swan Gay gettting rid of his yellow GT Pro which is one of my favourite bikes ever - can you see where this is going?

Here's the 2 bikes as they were, and a shot of the parts collected so far. The frame and forks are boxed up and ready to be posted to SBD.

Frame and forks all boxed and ready for collection and then head to SBD.

I just need to decide on decals now, do I go custom chrome foil as per the black one which are from the '83 Pro Nora Cup - right Nick?

Or, do I go down the proper '85 Pro Series route?

Thoughts lads?

I’d go pro series decals Dan, I wish I’d put them on mine now and I think they’ll stand out better on the yellow.

Decals have arrived from Del so I’m just waiting for the f/f back from SBD. He sent me these pics last Friday...

I know, I know, the decals aren’t era correct to the frame, but as with this build as it was, it’s a total custom bike. The reason I’ve gone with these decals is that, when I took this bike (in black form) to MK15, a guy came up to me after the lake ride and told me that my bike was his favorite bike of the weekend - some accolade that is. I let him have a spin on it, he was made up, he left his pretty girlfriend with me while he disappeared, it was a good swap IMHO. Lol
