This project took a bit of an about turn. I fancied using dp ladder bars, some come up on eBay, a package without wheels, I managed to get it so moved my ff on.

The Rickman seatpost was a nice little extra. At the moment the ladder bars and the seatpost are off for fresh chrome.

Christmas came early for me today. Had my ladder bars chromed and the Rickman seatpost that came on this purchase. The knurling detail remains intact and also the weld detail. Johnathan Butler did an awesome job on these. Many thanks mate.

is that a 22.2 or 22.6 Rickman seat-post ? It'll be stamped near the bottom ...

Just wondered if it's 22.6 with the new chrome if it'll  fit  the DP as it should be too big  with the DP taking a 22.2 post ???

PS if it is  too big PLEASE Sell it to me as i need one for my Rickman :daumenhoch: :LolLolLolLol:

Had the forks chromed and got my z hubs back from paint . They turned out great . Wasn’t sure until these came back what I was doing with the frame but feck it that’s off for chrome too now. My buddy Butts has done a cracking job on the bars & forks and with the frame been protected with paint it would be a great candidate for a 1st time chroming. He understands less can be more with the prep and I don’t want the shit polishing out of it. Original detail is paramount. So fingers crossed the bike will be done for Chestair in April 2020. Just been having a chuckle over how many times I’ve changed my mind over things already since this project started.

The chrome look really nice indeed.  :slayer: Can't wait to see what colour scheme you're going for with all the other bits.  :daumenhoch:

Got a few ideas that I’ve got parts to do Andy but the 1st one is going to be pretty boring. One of my favourite pics of any freestyle bike was bmx addicts chrome n black kuwahara exhibitionist. So that’s going be 1st on my mind. After that I’m going white bits using white Z’s then at some point I might just feck everything up and go yellow tuffs and all sorts.
Here’s the pic I’m talking about.

Decided to go chrome. Good thing about a mate doing it is that he understands my exact requirements and what can be expected, the pic updates have been a good touch too. Frame paint stripped to start with then polished but keeping weld detail / serial intact etc. Then he recommended a light copper plate for better end result. Problem with triple plating is after the copper it has to go through prep a second time ready for stage 2 & 3 of the plating. Suppose that’s why a lot of chromers don’t do triple plate.
At this point it just come back from lite copper and is going through second prep for stage 2 & 3. If things go to plan I should have it back finished ready to build for Chester fingers crossed.

The following are the after lite copper pics

Love that light copper! The chrome's going to look great but I'd love to see someone do a complete in that finish! :daumenhoch:

Yeah, sorry for the thread hijack!! Those museum ones are way too...well coppery, if you get my drift. The light copper finish on Glynn's Firebird is more raw, less showy. I'd love to do a frame with exactly that same finish, get it clear-coated then rock it as is, but then I am going through a raw, industrial phase at the moment!! :D

Back to the Firebird, does your mate just chrome bikes or other stuff too?

Ok so this happened today. Got the frame back and it’s quite simply the nicest chrome job I’ve witnessed. It hasn’t been over polished, details retained in welding and you can see the original linish lines in the gusset plates, the bb is perfect. I’m well made up.

Looks amazing that Glynn mate  :coolsmiley:

I find with modern day chrome it often looks "thick" and takes definition away from welds and edges (a bit like powder compared to paint) but that really does look spot on mate.

She's gonna be a beauty  :4_17_5:
