Firebird Mk2 freestyler (Phoenix, why? because it's a firebird rising from the ashes and that sounds better than calling it a turdbird  :LolLolLolLol: )
Ok thought I’d make a start. I’m not in any rush with this but we have made some progress.
Got this mk2 freestyler frame on mk1 forks off eBay some time ago. Badly powdered, I thought when it arrived there may be some damage where the tubes meet the headtube but it turned out to be powder gather. The frame did have an extra slit cut in so that went off to repair to Andy’s guy Geoff Haslam in Warrington. I was also lucky enough to get a trade on the forks for some mk2’s.

Got hold of a hutch western h freestyle stem for it. Needs a bit of TLC. As you can see this is definitely not going to be a survivor build because basically it hasn’t .

Is it wrong to get giddy over the little stupid things. Bike is going to be white so I thought I’d put some of these on . Chuffed as feck today when they landed on the mat. :LolLolLolLol:

Well the stems just going to be white this is what the cap looks like at the moment. I cleaned up the original bolts too. I got a new stem blot so just have to finish the base.

Changed my mind three times on the brakes already.
1st I was thinking white mx900’s with tech 4’s
Then it was black odyssey Rx3’s with odyssey 2000 callipers.
Then finally decided on silver tech 6’s with nippons.

The stem cap looks spot on.

Did you remove the chrome and how if you did.

What's your prep work for the base to get it the same finish as the cap

Basically i sat and peeled the chrome off. When i got to a point where it felt like some of it wouldn't peel i placed the cap in boiling water. That seemed to raise the edges slighthy so i could carry on peeling. Obviously the cap is a little harder than the base because you don't want to loose the H. I just masked the H and used spray filler then sanded smooth.
Ive started on the base by rubbing any lumps from the hammer rash down then doing the same thing. I think it's going to look ok, it's not a full on metal resto but the bikes a rider, the stem is structurally sound so as long as it looks clean i will be fine with that.

I didn't realize the chrome would come off that easily.

I know what you mean about the H as there not stamped/machined that deep to start with

Another part or two for the puzzle.
I noticed one of the old Glyn Lewis pics that he’s running renthals. Well I didn’t have any of those in the stash but I do have these Galindos waiting to go on something so I thought why not.

At the moment I’m fancying a hutch element running across the middle of the bike. So hutch seat clamp

Then I have a survivor hutch power disc that’s going on a redline flight crank with techmatic B.B. I also have a hutch 2/1 to go with the stem.

Are you going for spokes or Mags on this build? I’ve just started to build my dp up and have gone for OGK’s until I can afford some pro class rims for it.
