Ok so after selling up most of my collection earlier in the year & my beloved motor
I found myself getting very bored & decided to go on the hunt for something to build (& ride) So last month amongst other things i managed to purchase another Rickman on the bay which came (As below)...
it had some hideous parts on there as you can see above including a heavy Sugino burner crank set up (hate those things) but as the frame forks & bars were in such good original condition & it has a great patina so it was perfect for the project ....
As such I wanted to use mostly survivor parts on this build one along with using some nos lower end parts that i already had lying around as i wanted to try & do this on a reasonable budget... i went on the hunt for a faded set of brakes earlier in the month (thank you Brummie) for these & I also recently acquired a survivor Rickman Layback seat post which i was going to chrome so this went straight on the build as well...
Ive rattled a few bits (just like in the old days) to match up inc the Pedals- Seat Clamp - & Mongoose branded Stem that i got on the bay as it looked solid & only cost £25
i then purchased a royal blue burner seat for peanuts & after sanding it down I rattled it a lighter blue enamel after seeing someones work on Facebook as the seat i had was just too good & i remember these old knackers being pretty comfortable & reasonably solid (so on it went)...
I've found it really difficult to get the look right but i think its starting to come together ok.. There's still a few tweaks to go as I'm not happy with the way the Power glides fit into the Weinmann adjusters but I'm loving it so far...
I'm especially loving the Kenda K121 whitewall tyres of which i had a set back in the day. I've had these a while now & had them on another build after looking for a set for literally 4-5 years...
I know whitewalls aren't for everybody especially (Benno) but i think they really suit the build... These were standard on Ammaco Freestylers & used by Mason Smith from what i can gather on some of his Rickman's such as the one below on the cover of the 1985 Rickman catalogue .
Anyway here she is , not the prettiest , definitely not the most expensive nor a BOTM entry but i think she's going to turn out to be a great & solid rider that looks like its always been together...
