This will be interesting, loved Z Rims bitd and this freestyler is actually quite a difficult bike to build  fistblump
You are not kidding - this has tested my patience big style....

Here it is, 99% finished, just need to design and cut out the rear brake mounted guard...

Since I posted last on this in January I've completed the following:

1 - rubbed down, peroxided, and hot water bathed with Vanish Gold OxiAction the white Z48s,
2 - cleaned the seat and sent to Mark at MLCreations to refurb / refinish it for me,
3 - tracked down, identified and arranged some decal artwork through Jamyz for the Beach Cities Cycles decals (a Fred Blood sponsor at the time),
4 - pulled my hair out identifying the pedals.....

I'll update on all these bits next.....

Okay, so one of the frst parts for this build was the z48. And I mean z48, I sourced one, a complete used wheel from the states, and had to wait another 6 months to find a nos, but with major shelf dirt, Z48 to surface.
Once I had them both it was just a process of rubbing them down - they both had ground in grime and were more light grey than white, so I spent some time rubbing them down carefully. The one that was to become the front was the nos one, and still had the stamped 'ACS Z-48's on them, which left me with a quandary - when I had scanned and enlarged the advert I noticed the rims in the advert, whilst 48 spoke, just had the original 'ACS Z-Rim' stamps on them....I guess they were early pre-production models.

After rubbing them down I peroxided them - it was January, no chance of any natural UV's, so I made up a little area in the workshop and set up two UV lamps bought from a local club/disco equipment supplier - it bought back some good memories......ACID!!! :) :) :)

After a few days they locked pretty good, but I also decided to push the cleaning / brightening alittle so soaked them in hot water and Vanish

notice the haro master getting into the act as well....

so, on the bars and the seat post there where three rectangular grey/silver decals that I had to identify. It was a fair guess that they would be a sponsor decal, but they didn't look like any others I'd seen before, but after searching BMXmuseum for images of other FB builds I found this, and after badgering the owner he gave me a better photo of the decal...then it was off to Jamyz to commission (he's an artist) a decal for Del to knock some out for me...

The decal is for a bike shop in Hermosa Beach that is, after all these years, still trading and with the same telephone number....

pedals...jesus, Ive been through loads of sets before making my mind up on VP300's...although I'm pretty sure they were Hsing TA HTI-851's that were stock on the GT Pro performers from around 87...

What an amazing attention to detail! Special kudos for the hub-mod and the use of a seatclamp to have a mount for the coaster brake.   :daumenhoch:
Congratulations for this awesome outcome! Top job Mark  :4_17_5:
