1985 Scrapperson ( Patterson )
« on: September 29, 2017, 06:56 PM »
So I bought i really nice patterson frame and forks with repo decals. When I eventually removed it from the box i was horrified, it was scratched to death, rusty, paint around the welds and the decals were on wrong. I nick named it the scrapperson as it was nothing like how it was described. I let it sit for some time before i thought stuff it I will try and make something of this mess.

So I carefully removed paint from around all the welds and then set about polishing. I used good old fashioned Autosol, i dont rate Peek myself .

Ha ha its recycling.  The kitchen was in the house when we moved in. I found a new use for it once removed

Ha ha I honestly don't rate it even though everyone does. Autosol worked great to Polish this up but peek didn't do anything

Cleaned up well though I didn't think it looked too bad to begin with. Obviously depends on how it was described and what you paid for it, etc, etc. In any case I love Pattersons, so am looking forward to seeing it built up. What have you got in mind parts-wise?

So with Gold parts being more expensive than Gold and come up forsale as often as moon rocks I decided I had to make my own stuff up. So the parts were sourced, stripped and prepped for anodising. Once done off they went to Jay at chameleon  :smitten:

Next step was to fit the rivet, I had pondered doing this for sometime and thought stuff it I'm going to do it. I borrowed a home made tool of a friend called Michael Stobie, ive no idea what he is called on here. He uses the tool with a hammer and I wanted more control so I opted for the 2 tonne press at work. Parts are here and sat in the garage and I cant wait until tomorrow so I have a little go in my vice...................and i couldn't believe it worked and it was soooooo easy !!!!!!!!

So with that working really well it was time for some painting, decals and building

Looks great. I've always sworn by Autosol too. It has a solvent in it that just literally wipes rust off. I will keep an eye on this, loving that ano, looks nice and dark like it should !
