Amacco Mongoose nearly finished but help needed.

So over two years since been given the bike from a friend, I think it's nearly finished. I've replaced the seat, post, hubs, tyres and grips. In the pictures you will see that unfortunately I think the forks are bent which is a real shame, as I wanted my 8 year old to ride the bike down the park. Does anyone else think they look wrong?
I want to use the brakes as pictured, though they have lost some of the gold colour. I think new ones wouldn't look right.
So I need the following if anyone has anything to sell me:
Pedals
Brake levers
Mongoose grips (not that important)
I guess a pad set and some forks would be very hard to come by?
I've really enjoyed working on the bike and I realise my efforts are nothing compared to some of the tremendous effort, love and immense attention to detail that others on here put in to their bikes. However I've learnt a bit on the job and will soon be looking forward to a new bike project.
Thanks for all the advice so far.
Nick

Hi John,
Many thanks, to be honest though I have looked at your build many, many, times. It's superb!!!
Maybe I shouldn't fret too much about the parts as it is my first build, that said I can't sell it as a friend gave it to me and I dont want too.
There are new pads like yours for £75 on ebay, bit steep but I think it needs them. Could I ask what your pedals are?
Also did we have those dropout things we have now (both my cruisers have them) I just cant remember as I'm 48 and it was all a long time ago.
Cheers Nick

Nick, I wouldn't sweat about any of it mate, parts, padsets or whatever..... just have fun
The great thing about a first build is just seeing it complete. As time goes on and other parts come your way you can tweak and change to your heart's content.
My pedals are SR MP-468 they came stock on a lot of goose models 83-85
You find used survivor ones on eBay a lot.
As for padsets, some people love them, some don't mind them, some hate them !
As for me, I have to confess I have a MASSIVE pad fetish
When you say "drop out things" do you mean chain tensioners ? If so then yeah those were around back in the day. Some frames like certain cook bros models had them built into the frame
Have fun, enjoy the build (and get a padset for fook's sake

Looking good! The brakes should be re useable, just get some new hardware i.e spindles, nuts, washers...all available on ebay easily, same as cables and pads

Thanks for all the help, support and kind words!!
That stem does look good but I think the one I have came with the bike? Pads arrived and far too excited already!
Ok, it's really just the brakes and pedals to finish. Yes I have looked at the spares available and it will cost nearly as much for all the parts, blocks and levers as it could for a repro set. Is it a bit pants to use the repro parts? I can't really find any reviews on them. I thought i could strip the brakes to polished silver and then use new silver levers, again bad idea do you think? This would be because the colour has faded and i might struggle to find old gold levers.
I have really enjoyed this build and I had snapped my achilles tendon (i think my pal gave me the bile as he felt sorry for me and to aid recovery) try never to snap your achilles tendon, it really is no fun. My next build is lined up bit its for a new Hutch XL26 so should be far easier.
Cheers Nick
