skyway tuff 1's , help please

i just won some skyway tuff 1's on ebay with a coaster break , as im only 22 i aint got a clue how to fit or what a coaster break does as they were well before my time . any help would be great , was it expensive at £64 , they are so called nos . cheers guys

NOS means New old stock thats a good thing

a coaster brake is a back pedal brake so as opposed to a normal freewheel which allows you to pedal backwards
most tuff 1s had a coaster brake , they where common on mk 1 mongooses and early bmxs from the usa that was a sweet price if they are nos

coaster brakes were popularised by bob haro for freestyle, many tricks are a lot easier with a coaster brake eg rollbacks cause your feet can stay still without back pedalling also kickturns and such like because the brake allows you to rest on your back foot giving you a solid platform and a lower centre of balance when the front wheel is up   but they take some getting used to

coasters were prevelant among the american riders, as most american bikes come with no hand brakes, just a pedal back brake
the early freestylers in the uk run coasters, as a lot of very old school tricks relied on them

coasters grew less popular in the mid to late 80's and gave way to the freecoaster (all the benefits of a coaster but without the brake - pedals stay level when rolling back)

so is that what that arm is on  one side of the rear wheel , if so great , means i dont need to fork out for breaks .will they fit a street beat

be sure to bolt the arm to the coaster anchor on the beat

Coaster brakes rule and were used by many freestylers BITD . . . £64.00 was a great price to pay for NOS Tuff I's  

Like Ruler says . . . make sure you bolt the arm to the frame's coaster anchor

That's a great price, NOS ones can only get more and more difficult to find - they'll be older than you!
Real oldschool items there, look forward to seeing a pic of them on your bike.

Yeh coasters are the biz but they seem a bit weird to start with,stick with it because some tricks are easier as it provides you with a platform as such(remember and hit that front pedal on drop ins- though or youll just lock up).

coaster tuffs are cool ... if you dont care for the clicky sound
make sure the rear wheel spins freely. otherwise adjust the nuts on the axle.. oh and connect  the coaster break arm to the anchor on the frame as da Ruler says.. or you will have one hell of a break
