Sealed BB Issues
« on: May 30, 2017, 03:49 PM »
Ok so Im finally finishing off & Tweaking my remaining Rickman after selling up almost everything & packing up this Old School Malarkey once & for all..

Decided to Fit a new Tange Sealed BB to her beauty to go with an amazing ag chrome Tioga Task Force Crank but I cant fit the lock nut on to the non drive side as there's just nowhere near enough thread for it to grip?????

I've checked bb-cups bearings & everything else & it all looks fitted in correctly & snug as it should,  so how can this be ??? Is it a common problem ?

I bought another bike about 3 years ago with 3 piece sugino  CT-175 cranks fitted & now i see why it had sealed bearings on the drive side & a loose ball bearing on the opposing side..(must have been the only way to get it to fit but.

I'm guessing I'll just return it back to how it was now which is a shame :-(

Any ideas as to why these things don't bloody fit ?

Had 3 in the drawer, never got them on anything. Was determined to fit one on something & have got one on the Perry expert. Did use the grinder alot in the process, not really an option on a nos one ...

I had this exact issue with my Hot Heart. A SR spindle I had just did not have enough threads for the lock nut. In the end a fellow Radster came to the rescue with a Tange CV170 which fitted perfectly.

I had this problem in the past as well. Only thing you could possibly tweak is maybe run a thinner spider and a thinner lock nut. Not ideal but it might be enough to get some purchase :/
