Potts mod on a Nippon
« on: May 26, 2017, 11:45 AM »
Hi fellas, was looking into the Modding a non Potts Nippon and stumbled across this pic. Just wondering if this will this work as it looks like it's done without any change to the caliper?

Yep, that works I have a similar setup on an MX900 but I put a cable ferrule on the QR mechanism (that one might have one too but can't tell from the photo).  I also tried an adjuster on the QR and that seems to work ok too.

Did nearly exactly that mod to my non-potts nippon. Just I screwed up drilling the QR out in an earlier project when the nippon was going to be anodised  "nono"

As you can see, mine is missing QR. However you can use it, you just remove the original cable clamping nut and bolt and as you're fitting the cable fit the cable adjuster into where the nut-bolt was just removed from.

As for the top adjuster, (sorry if you already know) they're available here (or eBay):

http://porkchopbmx.com/dia-compe-bmx-freestyle-bicycle-brake-adjuster-front/

so, the only mode is, buy the above, and one of these if needed,

http://porkchopbmx.com/bicycle-brake-cable-m6-steel-barrel-adjuster-silver-or-black/

get an 8mm and a 10mm spanner (if memory serves me correctly) and in about 5-15 minutes yours can look exactly like the one in your photo.

As MartyC said, the adjuster on both ends works, but also allows for more brake adjustment too.

the quick release flexies and wastes braking power anyway, it works far better without it but doesn't look as fancy!! PAUL OSICKA ran his with no top semi D/C-auto adjuster(normal pinch bolt only), because that created flex which robbed brake performance >:D >:D >:D >:D
