1979 Jag Cafe Racer
« on: April 22, 2017, 01:30 PM »
One of my more unusual bikes is my '79 Jag. Built around a cafe racer frame, but with team spec stem and crank setup.

1979 Jag Cafe Racer frame
Roger Decosta forks
Mongoose gold double clamp stem
Tuf Neck (?) red fluted bars
Motormag II wheels
Chang Shin c183 tyres
Shimano dura ace cranks
Rat trap pedals
Shimano calliper and lever.

Is that the colour they called "Root Beer"?
I had not realised until recently that Jag was as big a deal in the US as it apparently was. There was an article in a 1978 or '79 edition of BMX Action comparing the "Mag Jag" with the "Team" model. I think they bent the Ashtabula stem [not unusual] on the Mag Jag but were, overall, impressed with both, particularly the Team.

You have replaced the weaker Ashtabula stem & cranks with the good stuff & the bike liiks great.
I'll be building Quickies till the day I die, ..... & maybe a couple of days after that.

Yep this one is Rootbeer.
They made some stunning colours, given half the chance id love the full collection.
I've set a Jag bmx Facebook group up. There's been some great posts and a lot of the old team riders have joined too. If you get chance take a look.
