Quadangle build All change
« on: March 17, 2017, 07:32 PM »
Hi All
 Just adding another build thread

I'm changing the colour scheme of my 1983 Quadangle  so I've stripped it down and it's off to SBD next week to be painted baby blue .As this was my first build  pre RAD I was never happy with its finish or my choice of colour scheme plus the paint job is pretty poor ive had this for 30 odd so think it deserves better .

Last pic is stretched dropout any tips on how to correct

Baby blue is a true SE colour  8). Are the forks going to be baby blue too? Or how about brown.  :-\  :) Either way I'm sure this is going to be a very cool build.  :coolsmiley:

Try dropping Sawzall or Animal a line for advice on the dropout.  Personally I would tape it and the use a pair of grips or a vice to gently push it back together but not too sure on the fatigue the metal may experience but one of those two should be able to advise you properly!

Cheers pal

I'll send them a pm
I was thinking the same with grips or vice but I'm so cow handed I'd be scared it would end up worse

Dropouts can be given a squeeze to  get them back into shape as Marty says, or gently tap with a soft mallet till back in position then I would squeeze the whole dropout in a vice to make sure they are not twisted.

Not difficult to do really, just be CAREFUL!  :daumenhoch:

Install dropout stepped washers to prevent spreading again.

I remember back in 2000 when I built my NOS 84 looptail PK, those dropouts are thin. I was used to around 5mm and cranking up the wheel nuts like crazy. Then I got a set of OG Landing Gears and they were super thin. So you do need to be really careful with them.

Do they take lawyer washers? obviously if they do that would be nice and safe.

If the metal has been stretched then it will be very hard to get it back to how it was.

You will find GT top hat washer quite easily. They are not converter washers but correct old school top hat washers.

Hi All,

Thought I’d update this build thread that I started ages ago (not very good at this sort of thing) not been much progress on this as I got caught up finishing my 87 Master so the Quad went on the back burner. I’ve got a few more parts now to go with the existing parts from its previous incarnation sticking to black and silver . Some bits I’m not sure of is the levers would prefer some Tech 3s or 4s  also the crank I’ve been browsing at some other quads online and seen Kunfunkys collection and have been drawn to OPC looks a lot less cluttered the bullseye looks a bit to bling same goes for the pedals was going to have them stripped and polished but not sure if it’s worth it anyway any advice or input would be much appreciated as I’m a fussy git and probably change my mind on everything . Also I’ve started another build a 85 GT Performer so as usual I make things difficult with having two on the go at once

Cheers Scott

Coming along nicely....i reckon the quad will look better with a opc and some different pedals...if it were me i would be tempted to put some Suntour XC II on.. or maybe some ACS Stoker
