I have seen a lot if these seats on mid school bikes....is that because people used them in the 90's? or is it because they are a comfortable alternative to a bmx seat?

I don't recall them being used during the mid school really. I would use one now though, they are wonderfully made and look quite comfy and light. During the mid school I used a small seat to make bar spins easier. These days people just level the seat lol.

early mid school didn't people just use whatever they could find?

They, and other decent quality road bike saddles were popular from the late 80's onwards, particularly with racers, as they were a more comfortable and more stylish choice than the box saddles of the time. I think it started because some older racers were dabbling with mtb' sand road bikes around that time.

I had a similar seat on my old Standard. Was made by Specialized but had the same sort of form (very thin at  the front etc).

My SE seat I just bought is pretty much the same format too.



But yeah, use whatever seat you want tbh.
