Return to BMX
« on: January 03, 2017, 10:26 PM »
Hey there guys... just curious, after a 30 year absence from Bmx racing i would like to make a return!!

Im 38, living in Cornwall. Where would be the place to race and how would i go about joining a club again
Any recommendations for a bike, bearing in mind im 15stone and 5'10

Any help would be greatfully appreciated

that looks like it would be some good fun. Just a shame its so far away
appears to have a lot of room for progression.

As for getting back into it.
If you have a bike already, have a few goes on that, and just find out what gear you require. Generally its long sleeve, long pants, gloves, closed shoes and a full face helmet. (some clubs may have gloves/helmets you can borrow when you first want to give it a go).

Thanks Drawn.... ill ring Cornwall Bmx today and have a word. Hqve kinda talked myself into wanting to race again. Need to find myself a hobby and get out and about. Recently overcome a 2nd bout of Cancer, so need to get my fitness levels up a little too. Perfect solution in my eyes lol

Yeah, health permitting and all that, definitely give it a go. I've recently decided to do the same, after a 30-year break! :daumenhoch:

Have also seen an article regarding the possible building of a new track at the foot of Carn Brea hill, over the back of Pool.

I have a gaff in Cornwall so pop down now and again.

PM Humps on here, he's part of Cornwall BMX

The Track is fooking massive and no good for a beginner, it will scare the shit out of you, although it does have a dirt pump track around it
Who wants to ride with Eddie Fiola?

good to hear you are on the Up.

As for the bike, for the older people I normally recommend finding a 24" cruiser. It is way more forgiving and for many, its a lot easier to get back into riding on one. Although if you have a lot of experience with 20" and are confident on it then go that.

Have found this site to be reasonably helpful, stumbled across it and it does have some good info. Has a lot of good solid base information that can be extracted.
http://www.bmxracinguk.com/

And no need to be scared of a track, just start slow and build up from there. Do a few slow sighting laps (I still do this every race meet) with enough speed to get up the jumps and get the feel of the venue and where you can gain speed and where you should probably take it slower.
In no time you'll develop further and know your limits.

Some good advice here!

Mikku.... what are you riding and where are you riding!!? How are getting on with it

Have yet to start but am itching to get under way! More info here:-

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,189389.0.html

I'm not the best person to ask/answer but for what it's worth, I'm sticking with a 20" bike as that's all I know (and love)! Come on over to the New School Racing section and update us with your decisions/progress!! :daumenhoch:
