What's a skyway ta copy worth?
« on: December 26, 2016, 02:49 PM »
Hello all,
I have seen a skyway copy on Shpock for 250.
It looks well, but the guy is being a little bit vague on its frame and forks. I have asked what it's built from and the reply was 'dont know but clearly an 80's frame'
Where would any of you price it?
Thanks

Depends what the f&f is mate. Post a pic it'll give us a better idea of what exactly it is.  :daumenhoch:

By the sound of it I would leave it well alone. It is probably worth less, he has plonked some Skyway stickers on it to offload it. As Nick said post up a pic...you will need photobucket or similar   :daumenhoch:

In all honesty it's probably not worth much, but without pics it's hard to estimate a value. By nature of it being a T/A replica, i don't think i'm being too bold to suggest that:
It's worth considerably less than he wants for it, and a lot less than a genuine T/A.  By nature of it being a replica, it's probably loaded with cheap and/or copy/repro parts. The fact that the seller doesn't know what frame it is suggests that eveything has been done on the cheap. Slapping skyway decals on it should not increase it's value, as it's still just a stickered up copy frame. If it was anything decent, he would have sold it on or built it up as it's correct model. I'm more than happy to be proved wrong, but i bet you i'm not. My guess it's actual value based on stripping it down and selling the parts is £200 at the very most. Would love to see some pics of it.

edit/update:
Is it this one?

Cheap copy parts everywhere. The stem and bars are probably worth about £60. New skyway wheels about £30. The rest is junk. £150 max i'd say, but if you're looking for a cheap rider and it's for you then go for it

That's the one!
He has now said there are no serial numbers on it.
I like the look of it, but it could be a stickered up anything.
The chap is convinced it's an 80's frame but has no proof, no idea what it is and no serial numbers..... Bless him.
I'm walking away from it tbh.
I valued it at 125.

It's highly likely that it's is an 80's frame - possibly an akisu or falcon pro. Both of these frames have very limited appeal, so aren't worth more than £70 or so. Looks like a fine bike to ride/enjoy for what it is, but not worth a lot. For £150 ish you'd probably get your money back if you sold it on, but no more than that. Re-chrome/re-paint/repair costs generally don't or shouldn't come into play when working out the value of something. A genuine skyway T/A frame & fork is worth about £375-£450 regardless of how much has been spent on it to get it sorted. I spent about £700 to get each of my 2 falcon pro's to show standard, but sale value would be £350 max each, or thereabouts

Hardly a T/A 'copy' - just any old frame painted white with Skyway stickers!  It's like changing the wheel trims on a Ford Focus, putting Porsche stickers on it and calling it a 911 copy.
