Slipping freewheel
« on: December 21, 2016, 12:15 PM »
I took a pair of WHEELS bikes out on the Santa Cruise at the weekend, myself on my Expert and the wife on my Pro. The Expert hadn't really done much work since I built it, and twice during the ride after a brief freewheeling interlude there was zero drive when I spun the pedals.... only for half a rotation or so, but it shat me right up both times as it was so unexpected.

Is the freewheel knackered or is something just sticking through a lack of use?

Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Spray some wd40 in there, should free the stuck pawls, if that fails buy a new one.

If it's really stuck bad soak it in diesel for a few hours, flush with a degreaser and then give it a good spin with 3in1 oil or a silicon lubricant through the gap in the top cover and teeth.  You could soak it in 3in1 but that would be a waste really!  If it's sticking slightly then just give it a good spin with 3in1 oil or a silicon lubricant through the gap in the top cover and teeth.

Better to crash and burn than fade away
