Okay so I'm doing an 84 freestyle type build..
I'm definitely fitting a flex fighter but..
What are your thoughts on having locknuts as well?
Anybody run both bitd?
Thanks Ant
( and no it's not a Haro build! Lol )

Fit a beartrap headset, no need for an additional locknut, job done.

You're much more practical than me Andy..  :4_17_5: I just like adding extra bits on my builds ... But only if they look good and are era correct ...
I knew this would get people's opinions going!

Is there anybody who likes it? ...

Running a stem that high is dangerous, there's hardly any of the quill in the fork!

The quill of the stem helps to stiffen the fork as well, s&m made a longer wedge, to help strengthen the fork.

If you want a high rise use an ESP , the quill is about 1" longer than average.

Or just fit 10" rise GT bars.

I love Tange locknuts, got them on all my bikes, and every bike I've built, I also like Flex Fighters, but only the 1" ones, although I've never fitted one. I do think that, that set up that you've shown is a bit too much IMO.

Yeah it's got to be too much .. Agreed ... I was just trying to sneak a Tange locknut on there as well as like you Dan I love 'em!
Was just checking if it was era correct or if s few people actually ran them back in the day  :daumenhoch:

I think Mike Pardon ran one of these on his TAP with a Suntour  power stem ...
I think it works ( ... A little better than the other setups .. Just )

A 2 in 1 would be ok, one of the lower rise ones, DK would be my choice

As I expected ( and thank god ! ) The headset lock is going and I'm just going to use the flex fighter.. It'll look way sweeter :daumenhoch:

When mounted on a 125 or even something like an aw27 the  lp440 locknut looks sweet. If you put them on anything with a nut looking bit that's integrated on the top race they stand too proud and don't look right. The tange aw27 has atop race like this so the lock nut doesn't make it stand proud it looks like it's designed to go with it & looks sweet, you might even get away with the flex fighter looking a bit better with it.
To me your limited with headset choice if you want a lock nut on and it look right.

Glynn's take on it is how I should have explained my post, all mine are AW27's, MX2's or Nikyo's, all of which will allow you to use the Tange as they have an independent retaining nut - I've got a bloody box full of them.  :LolLolLolLol:

Any good to you Ant? Lock nut and flex fighter in one  ;)

Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

I thought about the old jam butty Clint but you know I'm a sucker for Haro and I got a nos one pretty cheap!
Plus one of the bikes I'm using for inspiration had a Haro one on it and it looked good .. Granted without a lock nut!  :daumenhoch:
